Recording and playing demos...

AJL

Recommended Posts

I know how to record them and i know that i can select

them from that demo menu and play them...

But when i play that demo can i somehow do something

without interrupting it

Like: Change view angles, ranges, change between 1st

and 3rd view, change timescale, take screen shots...

(and maybe become "observer" and fly around and

watch that fight from different places...)

?? ??

you cannot change perpective, but you can change angles, fly about, change timescale and take screenshots, but its quite a complicated process involving some script work.

you really need to know the exact points you want the specific action to happen at, and write a script to do it. I am not completely sure of the exact script commands, if you really really want to know try pm'ing tk_nutritious, or shinyiu, both users here on LF, they are probably the leaders in video making in this game.

An easy way: I currently am compiling files for a movie and do the following.

Once you have a demo, open your consol and type cl_avidemo 25.

( the 25 is the frames per second, the higher the # the smoother the rate). Then when you run the demo it compiles the files in the screenshots folder.

For a different angle or distance from your player, create a game using the map in your demo. You must use the devmap MAPNAMEHERE command (thirdperson commands are cheat protected). Then you can change the Thirdpersonangle, distance, and several other options. Then quit the game and then run the demo. It will be the same demo just different angles.

I am making a movie now that has several different angles for 1 fight scene. Takes for ever but it does work.

You can do first-person with weapons and lightsabre. :)

I'm just going to be a git, and not say how though.

I'll leave that up to someone else. :D

Oh, and for the other questions.

Demo Recorder

Super Demo Recorder

For the camera angles, the commands are cheat-protected, so you'll need to enable cheats in MP.

devamp [mapname]

ModelView is useful for changing camera angles.

As for screenshots...

Either use Cleanshot...

or...

Bind a key to screenshot silent and also maybe toggle cg_draw2D.

The first command will make a screenshot without the annoying 'Wrote screenshot..' from the console. The second command will toggle the HUDs.

Hmm...

I don't want to make films or...

What i want is to play some of my demos and look that fight

from another view point than that what was active when i

recorded it... (and maybe take some screen shots...)

Very nice would be also if i could be like a observer in duel

(so that you can freely fly around that map...)

---- --- -- -

If that "free fly mode" is even possible at all in any other

situation than in duel... i have no idea but normally changing

view angle, range, and bla bla being cheat is not a problem

the problem is that in order to do something i have to

press some button...

BUT when playing that demo it seems that every button in

my keyboard and mouse and bla bla... seem to have same

funtion (which is ABORT demo)

Yes there is use a screen capture program such as snagit,or other various ones I use Howies Quick Screen Capture just watch the demo using the previous stated posts for diff angles and when you see a good shot use the screen campture program to get the pic you cannot fly around the map tho as the demo only records in game footage of what you were doing at the time not everything that goes on around THAT map at THAT time only what was on your screen at THAT time. Hope this Helps.

NO! It is possible to take screenshots, change view angles,

view ranges, ... with normal ingame console commands...

when playing a demo...

I know it.. i have done it before... but i just can't remember

how exactly (what i do still remember is that in order to do

that i have to launch that demo from ingame with console

command...)

And i know that command: playdemo "demoname" should

launch demo from ingame... (but now when i try to launch

some demo with that command my game crashes...)

So there must be something i don't remenber...
