Psycicpillow
I am a new mapper yet have been learning alot from some of my friends. So far I have only been making SP maps. I wanted to make a MP map so i changed the Project style and it is saved as a MP map. Yet it does not show up on Create Server. I have tried the Very Useful Rich Diesal tutorial but this could not help. I downloaded the tool PAKSCAPE and this is where i think my problem is. I dont know what folder to put the files in. In Rich Diesal's tutorial it says that the most basic MP map has .bsp .nav .jpg .arena yet i dont have any. I have a file called .map Please help. I have been searching the net looking for a cure for this disease and cant find one. It is taking longer to find out how to import it than it took to actually make it. Wes Marrakesh
Wrong forum. Put this is Mapping/Levels not the Showcase forum.
Hekx
*Rips open some of the PK3 maps he has in his base folder* Hmmm, now let's see. I'm no mapper, but I can help out with the structure of the PK3. .map goes in the maps folder. .jpg is the levelshot of the map which goes in the levelshots folder. .arena is the script file with the information you put in the scripts folder. .jpg / .tgas custom textures need to go in the textures folder. .wnt is the bot AI routing for the map, so that goes in the botroutes folder. Hope this helps. And yes, this should be in the Mapping / Levels forum. But no harm done. I would move it, if I could.
Leslie Judge
Hmm... If you made SP maps before, you have to know that you must compile your map to generate the .bsp file. This .bsp has to be in maps folder inside the pk3. The .jpg (or .tga) is a picture that you want to show while your map starts and in the map selection page. Usually it's a screenshot of the map. The rules are the same for this as they are for textures, so the dimensions have to be powers of two. This .jpg has to be in levelshots folder inside the pk3. The .nav file is the NPC navigation file fo the SP game. That's not good for you. You need a .wnt file which contains the bot routing info. You can search this forum for more info on creating bot routes, and you get a file with the editing tools which tries to explain how to make them. This .nav has to be in botroutes folder inside the pk3. The .arena file gives the description to the game about your map. I think the structure is well explained in Rich's tutorials. However many people has the problem saving it correctly. The extension has to be .arena, not .txt nor .arena.txt! This .arena has to be in scripts folder inside the pk3. Finally, as Hèkx Nòxú wrote, you may have custom textures, custom shaders, custom other things also. The general rule is that everything has to be in the same directory inside the pk3 as they are on your hdd, looking from the base folder. So if you have a custom texture for example: base/textures/mynewmpmap/wall1.jpg, then this will go into textures/mynewmpmap folder inside the pk3. Psycicpillow
I did all that but now i have a .bak file Where does that go?
Psycicpillow
And a .LIN I have no idea where they both go
wedge2211
They don't go anywhere. They mean that you have a leak in your map. Go to Radiant, and if you don't see a big bright red line, click file > load pointfile, and then follow the line till you find the leak and fix it. Then recompile. Wudan
Actually, he might not have a leak anymore. They could just be compile-fodder, leftover from bad compiles.
Leslie Judge
OK, make things clear. For me either. wedge: why did you say "they"? The .bak files are backups of your map, there is no relation to leaks. The .lin files yes, definetely. wudan: I trust in people (I know I should not) so I believe Psycicpillow found a .lin file with his map's name. As I think (and my memories say the same) a new compile always deletes the .lin file, so there can't be a .lin file left after a succesful compile. I mean for the map which was just compiled. Is this true?
wedge2211
Whoops. Okay, I know the bak file doesn't need to be put in the pk3, so that's true, but yeah, that doesn't have anything to do with the leak.
