resource system for GB2?

I just think on random raps and other type of maps starting out with less than 2000 of each resource is stupid. At early stages your workers are slow and it takes forever for them to gain alot of resources without going on to another tech level and upgrading. I usually play Defensive around my base to protect workers till I get to level 4. By then I can build a huge army and attack the computer's army. Which is quite funny because on easiest, easy and moderate levels he doesn't build a army to protect his workers. Most the time I could win in less than 15 minutes.

Wrong! It's real time strategy! Who can build faster in the amount of time and strike harder. The begining is crucial towards your growth and how you use the workers to gather what they gather is crucial also. Try playing on moderate. As soon as the comp hits T3 they attack, and on hard they trooper rush in t2.

I think if they ever do make a swgb 2 that the workers or whatever will collect resources that they should carry more than 10 of whatever there collecting (ore, nova, food, carbon etc) and buildings, technoliges you research, units should be cheaper because some are too expensive, just my opinion :D

Joe, it sounds like to me that you have some serious economic problems...

the rescources are there for a reason... i support unlimited farms and faster rescource gathering... maybe twice the speed at which rescources were gathered in AOM (something like 4 times GB)

And have what 5 workers on each resourse? That's one of the reasons people don't like Blizzard games. Although I've never been a fan of AoK's 100 villager thing, I am definately against anything that fast. I think that AoM found a good comprimise.

No, it just mean you can't make sweeping statements like "people don't like Blizzard Games".

Anyway, to not have resources is not very Star-Warsy, in my opinion. Trade is very important in the Star Wars galaxy, that's why there is a Trade Federation, smugglers and trade routes. Resources are also important because people talk about the Spice Mines of Kessel and Naboo's moons, the Cloud City is one big mining colony. And money is very important - money to buy ship parts, to buy transportation, to reward someone or to put a price on someone's head. While these examples might not directly relate to an RTS, it is clear economy is an important part of the Star Wars Universe, and to minimize economy or even do away with it altogether is not in the spirit of Star Wars, in my well-informed opinion.

I was just pointing out that random map battles for example the workers are just way too slow and carry little resources. They only way to actually have fast workers is to put the forcebuild cheat in but then that means research is instanteanous. I just want faster workers who carry alot more resouces per trip.

um, to whoever made the comment, Real time strategy should be about tactics in combat, not resources. Red Alert, C&C series are perfect examples.

Also, I think the trading thingy would work well, saying trade is a very useful think in SW.

It seems like there is a lot of complaining about ressources not having their place in SWGB2. Why?

Actually I disliked the C&C serie because it didn't involve a lot of thinking.

Just a bunch of troops bashing another for pointless reasons.

Now you have to build up your army and then attack the enemy.

Because you've spent a lot of ressources on that army, you're more careful, you have more strats, you have more careful thinking.

Those are required if you want a Strategy game.

Strategy involves both fighting and resource management. Otherwise they would call the genre Real Time Fighting.

I totally agree with Luke's Dad about the Westwood games. I'm not a big fan of them either, as it was just a race to get the best weapons. C&C Generals I'm told is different, but I should have it within a week or so and I'll be able to comment...

Correction: in Red Alert the entire point of the game is to get the other guy to run out of recources and THEN you pound him into the ground. either way it is still not very stratigic.

If you wan't to see SWGB1 without recources play Fort Blood. On the zone.

Off Topic

I do like the CC idea that it is easy to blow things up, because in SWGB1 it takes an very very long time to kill a building. I really really hate that. By the time I blow up a fortress half my army is gone and the other half will be blown to bits by the army he has built wile I killed his fortress. (same with turrets.)

CORRECTION: The resources in Red Alert respawned, so I don't see how it could be a valid strategy to wait for the enemy to run out of resources.

The reason your armies get decimated when attacking a fortress is probably because you guys have (apparently) no concept of strategy. In Westwood games, the way to take out a building is attack it with everything. This is not how to do it in SWGB1. Try getting a few cannons or pummels and have your army act as bodyguard.

I attack a fortress with everything I got using cannons, mouted troopers, etc. I protect these with troopers, aircraft, mechs, etc. I still lose a quarter to half of army taking out it. I usually can take out a few power cores, shield generators and prefab shelters at the same time.

vostok: the resources respawn, but they respawn really slowly, so once you use them up, you are stuck. I don't like that aspect of the game.

also, C&C was about fifty times more popular because of its fast pace, and the resource that they have allows for that. The main problem, though, is that you can easily go in to a stalemate.
