prisoner
i have just fixed my sof2 compiling and noticed various differences in from the q3map2 process. below are my hypothesises on sof2 and q3map2 differences in gameplay and compiling SoF2: makes light smoother, able to create dynamic light, see cut off lines in the map where u have clipped, not able to spot a leak, not able to spot any errors q3map2: not able to see cut off lines in the map where u have clipped:D, able to spot leaks, able to spot any errors, does not make light smoother, not able to create dynamiclight some of u may or may not have figured this out, but yesterday i just tried out sof2 that was WORKING:rolleyes: and i saw a lot of differences, i'm sure there is more that i dont know but these i think are the most different in compiling and gameplay:hoops1:
Emon
You are wrong in so many ways.
wedge2211
I don't know what you're talking about regarding "clip lines," but I CAN tell you that q3map2 CAn do all the other things you said it can't.
prisoner
uhhh i'm wrong........ theres not way i'll try to get some screenshots of the differences hows that!!
ydnar
What are you smoking and where can I get some?
War Master
If you see a thick red line in your map, after you compiled with sof2map, it means you have a leak. q3map2 is almost twice as fast and can slightly improve performance. I'm sure q3map2 does dynamic lighting. For common errors, with sof2map it's usually a brush giving a HOM effect, with q3map2 it's usually lighting problems. I use them both depending what I'm working on.
Emon
1. If you're getting jagged edges in lightmaps, you aren't compiling correctly. You need to use options such as filter and super 2 to get it to be smoother. 2. Q3Map2 can do dynamic lighting. 3. Clip lines? WTF?? 4. Q3Map2 is superior to SoF2Map in every way. Every way. prisoner
*falls down and breaks his back* either i'm stupid:wstupid: or u dont understand wut i'm talking about whihc u probably dont..... i have screenshots of the differences...... i just need someone to host them for me.... i used the highest compile of q3map2 and the highest compile of sof2... i know wut the highest compiles are in q3map2 and sof2...... but my god, wut i meant by clipping its like, how should i explian? hmm...... the only way u can find out when i give u the screenshots and see proof... advatages to q3map2 is that it makes smoother edges and no clip lines, u are probably confused about, u dont see.... disadvantage to q3map2 is that it wont let my light flicker or any other style light wont work, only sof2 can make the light flicker and any other style work... that is one advantage to the sof2... disadvatage is the screenshot i put in to show u differences... who can i give the screenshots to who will host it for me to put on the forum? ps: i did the right compile for sof2, fullvis(extra) and for q3map2 i did the final one with bounce 8...... i messed up on the thing about smoothness in my first post about this..... q3map2 DOES make light smoother.... sof2 makes it look worse sorry for my reasoning on that:(
War Master
Don't bother making arguments for sof2map or JK2Radiant on this forum. Even if you are right this forum is pro q3map2 and GtkRadiant. Don't waste your energy man.
wedge2211
Originally posted by prisoner but my god, wut i meant by clipping its like, how should i explian? ... advatages to q3map2 is that it makes smoother edges and no clip lines, u are probably confused about, u dont see.... There are two uses of the word "clip." One is the clip tool, which is editor-dependant not compiler-dependant. The other is the clip shader, which compiles the same in SOF2MAP and q3map2. There IS no such thing as clip lines. If you mean that GtkRad (NOT the compiler) sometimes doesn't display clip shader in 3d view, select Textures>Flush and Reload Shaders. That has NOTHING to do with the compilers. disadvantage to q3map2 is that it wont let my light flicker or any other style light wont work, only sof2 can make the light flicker and any other style work... that is one advantage to the sof2... This is true for older versions of q3map2. Go to http://www.shaderlab.com and download a newer version. Light styles are fully functional now. the thing about smoothness in my first post about this..... q3map2 DOES make light smoother.... sof2 makes it look worse sorry for my reasoning on that:( Yes...finally you begin to see the light! prisoner
sorry about this arguemnent i made:( i'm just trying to prove some points about things that i saw and tested.... thx for the help that i was wrong on a lot of things and some right....... i guess i got confused up in a lot of stuff:rolleyes:.... i think wut got me into this little agrument is that i just tested the sof2 compiler 2 days ago that worked:cool: about the clip lines....lol... better not go into that:D
