Psynex
Last night a friend of mine gave me a disk; it was a file of the Doom 3 (E3) leaked alpha. Despite how buggy it was, the game was freaking amazing! It was like a first person Resident Evil game. The real-time lighting adds so much atmosphere to the game that when I came across my first zombie I jumped; no lie my hands came right off the keyboard and mouse. It was awesome becase the zombie was looming in the dark and when I walked into his eyesight, there was a swinging light above that illuminated him and he growled and started coming after me. It's got wild other features like realistic damage. If you shoot a slug in the forehead, you see the damage in just that area. This one zombie I ripped up with the shotgun had his stomach tore open and you could see his intenstines. The first corredore you walk down after entering the first door you hear devil whispers and see some boxes fall float off of a shelf on their own. I went to investigate and found that the boxes all had their own properties. You could fire a shot and knock the boxes around! Real physics involved here. They'd all fall differently based on where they were hit and what objects are around them. Almost solid modelling, but I did see some clipping when it came to bodies on the ground. The zombies wouldn't stay down either. It's really buggy though; I lost visuals (completely black screen with dev error) and had my PC lock up twice, but I still had the most single greatest gaming experience I've had in a LONG time. Just thought I'd share with everyone.

Psynex
absolutely not. My friend has a geforce Ti 4600 and was having terrible issues. You will most likely want an ATi 9500+ or that newer geforce that I can't remember the name of because it doesn't even compare to the Ati's newest Radeons. FunkMaestro
Looks like its going to be a reeeaaly pleasant game!! madmk
I've pld that, it was very scary Allthough it ran at 17 fps (or 15, this was ages ago ) it went down to 0/2/5fps - virtually unplayable, but with future hardware I say it would be a good game to try, but atm the gameplay dosen't look very attractive btw, my comp: CPU: AMD XP 1600+ RAM: 256mb SD-RAM Graphics Card: ATi Radeon 8500 Motherboard: ECS K7S5A OS: Win XP Professional
Psynex
I just bought the ATi 9800 the other day so it ran pretty smoothly in terms of framerates. There were some serious performance issues when it came to getting attacked by 2-3 zombies, especially if being attacked from behind. Both times I locked up my system was when that was occuring and I jerked the mouse to turn around. But OH MAN! The game is outstanding. If Id is carrying the same element of suspense and surprise throughout the entire game, it's going to give me a heart attack!
The_One
I believe the GeForce FX is the name you are looking for. It all depends which benchmarks you go by, the FX will soon wipe the floor with the new Radeon. NVidia haven't yet released their optimized drivers for the FX - when they do, we will see a big performance increase. At the moment, the FX and 9800 are pretty evenly matched. However, the FX is really designed to take advantage of DirectX 9, whereas the Radeon isn't fully equipped for DX9. Trust me, in a month or two the FX will hold the market. NVidia usually do... C'jais
Sounds like a sweet graphics deal to me. But, then, do you just waltz around in this space station and blast zombies? Should be fun on its own for a while, but after the graphics hype has died down, what'll be left? In 3 years, when every FPS will look better than Doom3, will it even be remembered as a good game, or as nothing but pretty visuals and no content? acdcfanbill
Discussion of things of that nature are frowned upon on this board. Once there is an actualy Doom3 demo or the games comes out feel free to discuss it all you want, but since this is a 'leaked' alpha we dont want it here. Thanks Bill
