Crow_Nest
How do i crouch jump? I can't do it.
Solbe M'ko
I don't think you ever have to in SP. Crouch jumping isn't really in this game. Some MP players use crouching after they jump to make themselves a samller target or to do certain moves, but beyond that I think normal jumping would suffice. Feel free to correct me... ToppDog
Sounds about right to me. Can't really see any advantage to it other than getting your legs up just a bit at the height of a jump to get on a ledge or something.
Man_with_saber
Just press the crouch button/key at the apex of a forward jump. I can't think of any place in normal SP where it is required. There are few jumps that are easier using the technique, though. It is useful for exploring, also. (The jumping puzzles in Yavin Swamp for instance.) The hardest jump in the game (IMO, and not a required jump) requires it in spades. ;]
Antilles_CL
While falling, crouching/rolling helps when you hit the goud to reduce a huge amount of health loss.

Solbe M'ko
Well that isn't crouch jumping though, that's rolling out. I'd like to have Man With Saber elaborate on this tough jump, because I'm not entirely sure what he's talking about.

Basically, pressing crouch during a jump is probably only good for keeping your legs pulled up close to your torso so you can clear obstacles or jump into tight spaces that you would otherwise not be able to, such as a ledges, high walls, small openings, etc.
Kurgan
Crouching jump (hitting crouch to "lift up" your legs at the height of a jump to get an inch or two higher onto a platform) IS in the game and DOES work in SP. This was even pointed out by Raven IIRC, and I've done it before. It isn't necessary, it just makes it easier sometimes. Try doing it in Third Person view and you'll see the animation actually does change when this is performed.
Crow_Nest
I also noticed that the other jedi in the game can jump higher than you, can i do that?
Kurgan
If you mean in SP, no. There are limits to how powerful you can get with your Force powers, and that's it. The AI characters have their own stats, some of which (like Desann) you can never hope to reach, even by cheating (unless you take over their body and do it through them). If you mean in MP, yes, everybody has the potential to jump the same height. If your Jump is set to max (level 3) and you're holding the button down as long as you can, you're pretty much jumping as high as possible (unless there's something else like low gravity or Force Speed helping you gain distance). shock ~ unnamed
Actually it does have one tremendously useful purpose. When strafe jumping in a low ceiling area or when there is some type of overhead object/ledge that would normally cause you to bump it and slow down, if you crouch you will pass under it. Most CTF vets use this to strafe jump through low ceiling areas. Actually you kind of pass right through it but that's just part of the way it looks due to the animation. For a quick example load up duel_temple and strafe jump around the outer ledge. You will notice those torch/lamp things cause your forward momentum to halt if you hit one (solid object). Now as you do it press duck right before you hit one and you pass right through it without any speed reduction.

I'd like to have Man With Saber elaborate on this tough jump, because I'm not entirely sure what he's talking about. If you're referring to what I consider "the hardest jump in the game," it's near the very end of a long jumping puzzle in Yavin Swamps. It (like the jumping puzzle it's part of) is off the "beaten path." (I explore to the extreme sometimes.) Way off the beaten path in fact, up where things are not always what they seem. (And where you can get fatally stuck as easily as you can die. (Quite easily.)) This particular jumping puzzle is one of a few hidden in the Yavin Swamp level. The first one starts at the top of the crashed assault lander near the little waterfall. It ends near the beginning of the level. There another one of decent length, and a couple of short ones. And then one quite long one. (My favorite.) These are relatively tough puzzles. Just finding the way is a challenge, and some of the jumps are real "hair-pullers." They may be coincidence, but I would be amazed if they are not "designed." (I'll probably never know.) They added quite a few hours of SP play for me, so I guess it doesn't matter. There are a couple of "wierd" things up there as well. ;] I'm not sure they are in the PC version, I would think so but... There are actually quite few mini-shortcuts (a few steps) that you can take by using the crouch jump. The only two major shortcuts in the game that I am aware of don't require it however. The crouch jump (at least on the Xbox) can be used not only to get a little extra height at the end of a jump, but to even climb a very short distance up a slope you are already sliding up. (By pressing and releasing the button repeatedly.) This what I meant by "in spades."
Crow_Nest
I can crouch Jump already! Just tap the jump key once to do normal jump. Then, while you are in the air, press crouch to jump slighly higher.
Solbe M'ko
You don't actually go higher, you just tuck in your legs like a skateboarder. In Half-Life, it was useful, but as far as I have seen, it has no real use in JO.
Crow_Nest
I guess your right, we can just use force jump instead of crouch jump.
