Vorith
I am unable to search the forums, so forgive me if this has been addressed. Seems apparent that although you can do other things, this is centered around playing a character who becomes a Jedi. Pity you can't share the experience with a few friends.. Now, I'm wondering how detailed they will be.. For instance, will a long and complicated quest pop up simply to create a light saber? I believe it should be.. That's all I'm concerned about. I hardly ever buy single player only games, but this looks to good to pass up.. To bad I have to wait till fall, being a PC user and all. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks. tFighterPilot
Pity you can't share the experience with a few friendsYes you can, if they would come over. Seriously people, that is not a multi player kind of game, it is a great single player game. Bare with it!
Vorith
But if they come over, I lose the benefit of 'ISP issues'. See my plight? Like I said, the game still looks great, and I'll definately pre-order. Overnight if it's available.
Jedi Apprentice
The devs have said that there would be quests or missions to get your saber and crystals for the saber. Although getting your saber will probabaly be a matter of training and doing things at the Jedi academy. We don't know the specifics yet, but I think I might be able to put something up here after work that might help a bit.... Welcome to the boards, Vorith! I hope you enjoy your stay here and stick around with us. *waits for Hannibal to pop his pic in here*

Burrie
My hopes are that the sequence in which the main PC evolves into a Jedi Knight is a long and powerful one. Not something random like the Yoda-Master walking up to the PC and saying "Och, you're a Jedi. Here's my lightsaber, now go kill Malak". In fact, my hopes are that discovery of our awareness into the Force will be very climatic. I mean, come on... this PC will be the Anakin/Luke Skywalker of the era, certainly it can't be someone just walking up to him and telling him that he can be a Jedi. How this discovery must be made, I have no idea... perhaps Malak will personally go after the PC having discovered his potential and try to have him join his side. Or the PC will tap into the powers of the Force without realising it(warding off an attack that could've killed him, say, a large boulder about to crush the party)... As for the Jedi Trials, I certainly hope this will also be a mayor event that will span a couple of months(not in-game, of course), not just a day or so. The main PC must've lived years without actually touching the Force, surely he can't be taught in a week or so what kind of things he can do. As for building the lightsaber, methinks that'll be one large quest in itself. I hope they won't go for the old cliched "getting-lightsaber-from-mentor-or-parent" trick, and that we have to work hard to build this lightsaber. I can remember that the developers said at the official forums that there will be some sort of Jedi Trials, so that's a good sign. On a related note, they also said that there was a Sith Trials of sorts.
Dark Dragon
Yo Excellent post burrie, i really couldn't of said it better man. Sad fact is with these type of games, the little people, the fans aka US, always know what the game in question should be like and have in it, but the developers never do, HOWEVER, i do have faith and trust KOTOR to be a truely great game in all areas. :fett:English:fett:
Nightlord
Likewise English Guy and Burrie. I beleive there is a screenshot in the screenshot 'folder' thing at: http://www.lucasarts.com/products/swkotor/images/screens/56.jpg In it, I assume you are in the Sith Temple (just a guess - you know, cliche bad guys, black clothes, masks, the eerie atmosphere ) and some guy in black clothes and a mask with a lightsaber in his hand says: "Greetings, prospective students. It appears we have a late entry. Who do you bring before me, Yuthura? A young human, bristling with the force?" This points non-too descretely at the possibilty of Jedi or Sith trials at their respective temples
Jedi Apprentice
The devs have said possible clues about being able to join the Sith Academy if you are a dark-sider or just infiltrate it if you are on the light side. But as things go with games, the content can always change, but let's just hope that it hasn't. And like everyone else ( ) I agree with Burrie. I hated how you got your saber and powers in Jedi Outcast. No work, no diligence, no training. It was almost a joke. I want to have to spend time in the Jedi Academy and alone time with my master and possibly even classes with other padawans. Also going on training quests with other Jedi(s). All these ideas listed were just things I am hoping for though. The game will be great with our without them, but I sure would like it. For the saber, I want to have to completely construct it all myself. Maybe only receiving one earlier to train with, but eventually building my own. I have great faith in BioWare though that this section of the game will be very deep and full of great content. BTW--Still working on that thing to put up...... jedi3112
I think it would be difficult if you had to make your very first LS, how can you do such a thing if you're still a Padawan, but I like the idea of building your own LS, just give me a Padawan LS for the time being, as a true Jedi that LS is my life. It's very hard for a Jedi to go outside the Temple without a LS, but building your own could very well be part of becoming a Jedi Knight, and I do like the Jedi/Sith Trials, just give me a powered down LS untill I got the crystals to make my own LS. Burrie
And like everyone else () I agree with Burrie. I hated how you got your saber and powers in Jedi Outcast. No work, no diligence, no training. It was almost a joke. I have to admit that I personally pretty much liked how Jedi Outcast handled it. Granted, an extended sequence would've been more funner, but face it... it's a FPS, and most of these are not really known for having such scenes. They tend to, eh, quicken things up a bit. And in the end, they handled it fairly IMO. My original thoughts were that Kyle would just say "Well, I guess ah'll be a Jedi again", and that would be it. But no, they managed to reuse an old plot point from Kyle's past, and the temple sequence slowly brought the player up to speed with the abilities of the Force. Especially the music was well-chosen in that particular sequence, it really felt as I was Kyle, rediscovering the power of the Force. For Jedi Outcast, it works due to Kyle Katarn's backstory. For Knights of the Old Republic... I'm not so sure. I want to have to spend time in the Jedi Academy and alone time with my master and possibly even classes with other padawans. Also going on training quests with other Jedi(s). All these ideas listed were just things I am hoping for though. The game will be great with our without them, but I sure would like it. Indeed, this is how I hope to see it in Knights of the Old Republic. I want to be amazed alongside my character as I'm able to levitate my first object... I want my mouth to hit the floor when I see master Vrook show his experience... I want to quietly listen as the Yoda Jedi Master instructs me in the smaller details of the Force... and indeed, I'd like to see some training quests besides other Jedi, really discovering the Force alongside fellow students who are taking their first steps as well. And most of it all, it should be sequence that takes months(in-game, of course, not real time)... I don't want the player to wake up with his first Force Powers. It should be an important event. Jedi Apprentice
I do agree that they did an ok job for the game being a FPS. They could've made it more interactive though. Have Luke with you during your training time, teaching and guiding you. They could've also had training duels with the other students. Such things as these are other things I would like to see in KoTOR, not to mention what all you said, Burrie. Being able to run around the academy, talking to the various, knights, masters and padawans would be a very enjoyable event also. Especially if you could challenge them to a duel. Ahh, so many options. I guess that's partly why I love this game so much.
Dark Dragon
Yo I really hope the game turns out with a lot of this stuff in it, but i can't and won't get my hopes up, i've been let down far to many times. :jango:English Guy:jango:
Nightlord
Ahh...the possibilities...... I wonder if you actually get a master assigned to you......perhaps Vodo-Siosk Baas himself
Burrie
I wonder if you actually get a master assigned to you......perhaps Vodo-Siosk Baas himself One problem... Vodo-Siosk Baas is kinda... well, dead. My thoughts are that we'll either get Master Vrook assigned as Jedi Master, or Jolee Bindo will handle our training.
Nightlord
I bow before your superior knowledge of the EU At this time would your player still be too old to begin training? Or has the Jedi Code not been written/rewritten yet? Hmmm.... *ponders*
Jedi Apprentice
Well, if the player was too old to train, then we wouldn't get to be a force user in the game most likely. That might mess the game up a bit. I am pretty sure the code was written by then, but probabaly wasn't as strict. I'm not sure if they even had the one apprentice per master rule by then. I'm not an EU buff however. Working on it though. I myself think Vrook will handle the general stuff like Yoda does with the kids in AOTC, while Jolee would handle the training outside of the academyand be your actual "master". Burrie
Well, there is some sort of a Jedi Code in place around the Tales of the Jedi era. Mind you, that takes place 50 years before KotOR, so there are bound to have a few changes... To get to your original point, I don't think there's an indication about an age in this era. Nomi Sunrider, one of the most important Jedi in that era(probably the Luke Skywalker of TotJ), was trained at a rather old age when compared to TPM. I don't really think that an age is ever mentioned, but I reckon she must be about 20-30 years old. I believe that the history of the other Jedi that appear in that era were also taught at a later stage in their life. Also, there is no problem concerning Jedi loving each other and such. Nomi was originally married to a Jedi Knight, and she was born from a Jedi as well. She also had a child, and fell in love with Ulic... and no one really seemed to mind. Everyone also has family ties with each other, bla bla. An interesting part about the Jedi Code in the Tales of the Jedi era is that a Jedi is truly allowed to do whatever he wants to. Exar Kun was allowed to research several forbidden relics, "because he's a Jedi, he goes where he pleases". When Ulic goes off to infiltrate the Krath Cult, the Jedi Masters let him know that they're against it, but allows him to go, because "It's the Jedi way". Heck, even when several Jedi Knights mount a rescue to save Ulic, they find out that he's gone to the Dark Side. What do they do? They leave him there, because he doesn't want to come with them, even though he has sided with the Dark Side. Why? "It's the Jedi Way". Now mind you, the whole "It's the Jedi Way" really caused terrible reprecussions for the Republic(Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma caused a lot of damage which could've been prevented), so they might've changed that lil' rule. I certainly would.
Nightlord
OK. So to the best of our knowledge (and a lot of guess work) Vrook will handle training at the Temple with other students but Jolee Bindo will be your Master in the big outside world, guiding you and making the traditional sarcastic comments That all okay? Burrie
I believe that is all speculation instead of fact... that is, unless Apprentice is actually a Bioware employee in disguise. Master Vrook has only been mentioned as being voiced by Ed Asner, and I don't believe that anything has mentioned that Jolee IS going to train us.
