Darth Eggplant
this is a duel purpose thread. part one 'The Point' there was a great cartoon way way back when most of you were still in diappers called 'The Point' it was a cartoon about a little boy named Oblio. he was born with a round head in a world where everyhting was based on triangular geometry. he had to wear a pointed hat and he got bannished, just for being different and having a round head. I wonder has anyone else seen this film? does anyone know if it commercially available? anyhow it's a good film. NOW my real point within a point to this thread. lucas store and points. points on forum are still a new concept. and the store offers a variety of functions and services for them. everybody's favourite I am sure are the glowy for your name, the image sig tag for all thoses banner builders out there. and for those too impatient not to reach 1,000 posts and create their own user title, the user title thingy. now some are quite inexpensive like a hotel for 20 points while some take some doing and are impish at best give another User a custom name 1,700 points I admit freely the evil thought of zapping someone with a new name crosses my mind, but then I remember how angry and helpless and ticked off someone would be if they got their name changed and had no recourse to change it back. so even though a delightful what if, I would never do it. I can take a joke but skin thickness and comfort with who you are is something which varries from person to person. so all these points and what is the point to them? well sure like alien crazy bones they are fun to collect but if you do not trade them and share them with friends what good are they? I know their is sucha status cling pro quo to having high numbers. ooo look at me top o da list. but whats the point in that? posts and threads which are pointless and obvious spam and psychically vampirish in nature get closed down by mods. hateful or ignorant ones or senseless ones too. it gets mods pissed at you cause they mod for free so why should they be putting up with BS and bad forum on forum. so what is to be gained by agrivating mods? or for that matter what is to be gained from agrivating fellow forum members. there are rules stuck up at the top of most forum communities rules which are important, rules which get 'stuck' there for a reason, because they are important. stuck threads kind of convey such sentiments, truely important, neccessary and worth while points of interest. which is leading me to the whole point of this thread. I have been here in the lucas community for just under a year, I believe this fall makes it so I will have to check. at any rate as newbie; not someone who was well known not some one who was neccessarily well liked, (and at times still) a pain in the butt; I was treated exceptionally well by the kindness of friends. like Marge duBour in streetcar named desire. living off the kindness oof strangers, I was given in 2 large and extremely generous sums 800 and 300 points to go towards instant glowy and siggy gratification. and that was then as a forum nobody. well I have been around a while and (some will notice) ET Warrior for one is giving a sigh of relief as this is not a haiku post. that I now frequent if not live in the swamp. I have traveled around and through several lucas forum communities and not being entirely sure on this don't quote me... but only in the swamp have I seen a wonderful and really great stuck thread. the 'Father Torque Foundation' there is a thread which is stuck, ergo stuck threads usually get sticky-ed-so all about a great and worthwhile endeavour the enrichment and beautification of the lucas forums community and what they call in Bhutan 'gross national happiness.' if you are new or down on your luck and ask and act with good form on the forum, father Torque will bequest points to you. AND... think all those new people out there master graphic artists just itch'n to make their first banner, a banner than you may go WOW! and even covet or convert to your own good. or ask through PM-ing please could you make me one too? now I see that there are many talented forum members some are truely altruistic, some which to be repaid in kind for services rendered which is acceptable cause everyone has to eat too. however one thing I notice on forum is the thing which always in my mind is conter productive to gross national happiness, that is the old status cling. needing to be somebody not by who you are or those who appreciate your membership on forum but because of some falsely inflated self gratifying number. such as I have so many posts because I have so many points because i post at x number of sites ETC ETC ETC.... every forum member is a potential super forum member unlike super modship, super forum membership is something you can achieve almost instataneously. and keep through pride in self, loyalty and commaderie with other forum members thus uping the gross national swamp happiness of places such as the swamp or the harbor or the calavera cafe. I can not entirely speak for father Torque but I am willing to believe that any forum memeber, evena forum member who does not post at the swamp would be met with the very GNP-ness of what the foundation is meant to ultimately achieve. I have purused the lucas store and out of idol curiousity and well meaning good intentions discovered that there is a top ten list for people on forum who have the most points. in top potision without mentioning names there is a 550 point difference between 1st place and 2nd place. I also notice because I check daily that last time I looked Father Torque only had something like 26 points. the foundations numbers means one thing, Father Torque is obviously peddling more points than chicken, because if he were just hording a gold hoard he would have numbers as high as some of the top forum members who have these points do. and when you think about it, if the amount for the highest lucas store service is 1,700 than having 3 times that amount well it smacks of pointalism. I mean and people with be snide and sarcastic, but how many points does any lucas forumm member need to have? Not certain that other father Torque point foundations exist online in the lucas communities, I don't know what or why these forum members and these were only the top others must also have high climbing numbers I do not know because I do not religiously checked, our lucas forums community is a great foum commiunity and most of us really like being wired to each other, and i have seen first hand loads of fellowship and GNH towards each other, and there are always newbies coming along each and every day. so my point being as I am going to shut up now soon. The Father Torque Foundation could use some loving and some sweet sweet point donations on a daily basis. for example the top forumer with a 550 point lead over second place, that person could give up a 100 points a day and still maintain their status cling status. and I can't speak for all of you but having the title mod next to my name or super mod or admin does not mean a thing. a super forum member is a super forum member period. The father Torque Foundation exists because mods and admin staff on the lucas forums community obviously believe in it. or it would not be ther stuck up at the top with all the other important threads so forum memebers do not simplycross the road to get a bucket, give a bucket inexchange while your there. recycle those points, help creat GNP all across the lucas forums network. (and excuses such as I am saving my points in order to be a philanthropist doesn't cut the mustard. that is why the Foundation is there for) plus as stated father Torque's point are low ergo he is doing what he set out to do, if you have points and claim to be doing the same, I hink it's time to take the red pill and donate some of that well garnished gold and send them to Father Torque, just say little Oblio sent you. ZBomber
*Claps* Bravo Eggy. I agree on most of the stuff you said there..... *I didn't read all of it, but most of it)
coupes.
my eyes hurt... that was long. but i do agree on what you are saying, some members can really get on someone's nerves by constantly begging for points while they are most certainly not very interested in this community, otherwise they wouldn't care about points and post for the fun of it. All i say is give something back it might be paying back points or it cold be helping others with their problems, bring interesting news or start interseting debates that makes this place lively. leXX
Well said Eggy, but you make it sound like it is just Father Torque doing all the donating. Yes he started the thread, but many many people donate to others via the thread, you don't have to donate to Father Torque himself. Just thought I'd clear that up. I myself have donated 1800 points to the FTF, and I encourage everyone with an excess of points just sitting there to do something to help others. Darth Eggplant
I know there are others out there donating, like i said a mod and admin helped me out without a second thought, I just want poeple to be aware that loads of points are neat but you can't do anything with it, it's kind of like our canadian dollar, pretty colours, not worth anyhting really. and I am glad someone knows the point a great film done by the same people I think who did school house rock.
