Personally, I think it's a good thing... I can just imagine a voice for my character, or voice it myself. (Heh, have my family wondering why I'm talking to the computer.

 

Anyways, there are 15 avatars for each gender, and with different classes, the build will change. With all the dialog choices and all the different builds and avatars, doing voicing for all those would be prohibitively expensive.

They said since you have to read the choices your character is going to say there's no reason for it to say them again. The found that people would skip over the re-reading of the line.

 

I didn't like this at first but I'm ok with it now. I don't like most of the voice sets in NWN so I have no problem with their not being a voice for the PC.

I'll side with Bioware's decision on this. Avoiding a voice for the main character allows the player to feel more like he is in the game.

 

Valve did the same thing when they decided not to have cutscenes or a main character voice in Half-Life.

 

Besides, I can't stand any of the character voices in NWN, so that's also a vote against player voices.

 

Also, the voice actor for Tidus in FFX was really bad, so I'm pretty much set on the opinion that main characters should be mute.

 

Y'all will get over it. Just imagine the protagonist is really really stoic.

Meh, obviously you didn't read the whole thread.

 

The devs have stated that the main PC will have no voice, just text. ;)

The devs said that they didn't include it because then they'd have to make at least 2 different voice sets(Male/Female) and that would take up too much space on the disc.

 

At first I didn't like it, untilI read Hannibal's post, I would probably skip over a majority of the lines, as I had just finished reading it, although I might listen so I could learn how to pronounce some of those strange Star Wars words/names. :D

 

I hear that your PC's name will be spoken, which will be sweet. :D

From what I've read, they won't do this. Yes, your name might appear in the dialogue text, ie "May the Force be with you, Starscream", but you will simply hear "May the Force be with you". Kinda like how they managed to avoid speaking your name in Neverwinter Nights.

I prefer there to be no voice. Like others have said, the whole point is you are pretending the character is you, and it would be harder to get into character if you had a voice that sounds nothing like yours. Much better this way.

The thing with EA games though is that they only do it for names already in the game. For example if your name is John Flabfiafjlebafkba then they will call you Ned if there is a player with that name already in the game, and as Flabfiafjlebafkba is not in the game, the name will not be pronounced.

 

I know this because the same thing happened/happens to me in the NHL series, as my first name is already in the game due to Jason Arnott, among others, but my last name sadly is not shared with any NHL players, causing the announcer to call out "Jason!" everytime which is very unrealistic. :(

 

So anyways, to get back on topic, KotOR rules! :D
