Lujayne
Aaaaaarrrrrhhhhhhhhhg! It is my dream to play this song. But I need help figuring it out / tabbing it. Firstly, here is the song. Actually, it's one I posted here before, but it was a while ago. Song And here is what I posted at a different forum (one of the people there thinks it sounds wrong, but I think it is the right start): Okay, I think I've got it worked out. I drew up a little picture, but the truth is, it's been so long since I've actually used tabs and chord pictures that I totally forget how to do them. ^__^;; But I'll explain it so it's usable. The numbers are your fingers; 1 being the big one and 4 being the pinky. The strings are labled. As far as I can make it, the chords are: F, G, A. Simple. And it is the very same 3-chord 'riff' that is used throughout the whole song. He is using bar chords, or power-chords, so you move up 2 frets for each chord. Here is what it looks like: That's the F chord, played with your first finger on the first fret. For G you move to the third fret, and for A to the fifth. Very simple. He does, of course, do some groovy things with those chords that I just can't duplicate at the moment. -__- And I'm pretty sure, as you can see from the image, that the high "E" string he plays open... (that's what the little 'o' is for. ^_^) Now, just to specify, those chords are just the *frame*, and he does a lot of neat stuff with them. And he's doing something with that A chord that I just can't quite figure out. Almost that he is only playing the first few strings and none of the rest. But I am not too sure. So, can anyone add their great knowledge to this?? Perhaps together we can figure the thing out. ^__^ Ahhh. So. Whoever is really good and smart, if you can help me out, I'd love ya for a long time! EDIT: okay, that d/l is not working because of the ****ing auto-censor. The song is called "a.s.h.i.t.a. tenki ni nare" minus the periods. It's ****ing Japanese, that's language discrimination. ¬_¬ I'm taking this to the courts.
Lujayne
For now, whoever might be able to help me, could you just go to this site to get the song? It's is at the bottom in the list... ;___; Ash1ta Tenki ni Nare. Thank you so much! ~L.
Skate Boy
MAybe our guitar's are tuned different. But I have the chords as F# Ab C#. I don't know how to help.
edlib
Definately sounds to me like F#, but I can't remember last time I checked this guitar against a tuner. It could be that he's using a capo on the 1st fret. It does sound like there could be open strings in those voicings. I've only listened to it once, and beteen my comp fans and the air-conditioner going, it's hard to tell, (even with headphones on,) but it sounds like sometimes he's playing a A# minor 7, and sometimes it sounds like a C#6 (same chord enharmonically, just the root changes) as the third chord. So this is what it sounds like: F# / G# / A#-7 or F# / G# / C#6 There's a little decending bass-string run in there too, and a couple of fills where he changes up the chords a little bit. The progession over the chorus sounds different too. I'll listen more carefully tomorrow downstairs in my music room where it's a lot more quiet. Lujayne
Hot diggity dog, you guys. ^_^ It seems my guitar was tuned up; I just broke out my other one and it is indeed F# there. While I do know what an A#m7 is, C#6 is out of my reckoning. n_n (*goes to get giant chord-book to look it up*) Thanks a lot guys! Can't wait to see what you bring me tomorrow, ed. ^_^ Till then, I'll work with this!
edlib
C#6 = Play a C# barre chord on the 5th string root, but don't lift your finger off the top string. (Not too good with the tab, but here's the frets to play: ) E A D G B E X 4 6 6 6 6 The chord is spelled: C# / E# / G# / A# (the A# is the 6th) The A#-7 chord is: A# / C# / E# / G# The 2 chords are inversions of each other, so they are completely interchangable. LQ.
That song sounds familiar...is it from an Anime and if so, Which one? Damn i wanna see Gravitation again...
Lujayne
(*loves Gravitation!*) The song's not from an anime, it's by a Japanese singer named Miyavi and he's awesome! I posted the song here a while back, so maybe you listened to it then? Or, if you are a fan of any J-rock, perhaps you knew him as Miyabi, former guitarist for due le quartz? I dunno if you're into any of that music though... (But you should check him out here! ^_^ He's so cool. Come and join the message board! Oh, he's the guy in my avatar! [Yes, that's a guy!] Ehehehe.) Ah! Thanks ed! I couldn't find my chord book anyway. -__-

edlib
Let me put down my bass guitar and try to assist you in assimilating that information... I could never have gotten away with my sig for so long if this loophole wasn't there.

edlib
Sorry L, I never got around to doing anything with that song this morning... I'm actually at work now (waiting for something to happen... ) I promise to listen to it tomorrow! Really...
edlib
I've listened to it a bit more under quieter conditions, and I'm pretty convinced he's using a capo across the first fret. That would make the chord voicings you play: Open F/ Open G/ Open A-7 This makes a lot more sense to me... who writes a song in C#/ A# Minor? Using open chord voicings gives a lot more freedom to do the hammer-ons and pull-offs and other tricky things like he's doing. Try that out and see if it sounds closer to you. Lujayne
Wooooow, I think you're right! ^_^ This sounds much better than what I was playing before. Now all I need to do is learn how to do all that other fun stuff he's playing! ^_^ Wooo. Thanks ed. n_n
edlib
No prob. That college education as a guitar major should be good for something! I don't have the time to work the whole thing out for you,.. but you'll really be better off if you figure it out by ear, and work it all out for yourself anyway. Then you'll own that song. By the way... what kind of gear do you have? How long have you been playing? I'm always curious to see what other people are playing.
Lujayne
Well, I've got 2 accoustics; neither are brands I've really heard of though. I've got this one called Fenix, plus another one that's not really "mine", I've just been borrowing it from my aunt for the last (*counts*) 8 years. It's called "United". (Don't tell my parents, but I think it's better than the Fenix one they got me for my birthday even though they told me it was expensive... I don't really know about that... but anyhoo.) But there is this particular one that I want so much, it's a Larime and last I checked it was $1200, though the last time I checked was a long time ago. I'm not a very serious player anymore (I used to be very much though!) so it really wouldn't be worth it to spend that much on something I'll use once a month or whenever I feel the need. Ech. I started playing when I was 17 or so, and actually, I started on the bass (which I was borrowing from my brother-in-law), rather than the guitar. But then my aunt heard I was playing it and lent me her regular accoustic, so I just started taking lessons on it and the bass got forgotten. Maybe I should take up the bass again. It was alot of fun. My specialty was figuring out Mike Dirnt's Greenday basslines. ^_^ What fun! A really great song to play was "Longview". Does anyone remember that one?? ^__^ Oh, now I'm getting nostalgic. Ah well. Hey ed, I finally heard that little descending bass-line thing you said he does in that song, but for the life of me (esp. after all my talk of being such a great bass player ) I can't figure out how he's doing it....... -----______----- I guess I didn't spend a lot of time on it though... (like 5 minutes I get frustrated and bored easily). Okay, maybe I'll try it for a bit longer. But it may be beyond me. Oh, one thing I should add: though I've "been playing", so to speak, for 8 years, I'm no better at it now than I was 6 years ago. It seems that, unless I am taking lessons, I don't advance at all. In fact, I know (for a fact!) that my ability has actually gone down since I quite lessons in '97. How lame is that. I think this is the longest post I've ever written. Cool! Lujayne
Okay, no, I really have no idea. -_- EDIT: I don't know, I'm starting to think that he is playing bar chords rather than open.... it's the only way I figure the bass-thingy into it. Skate Boy
Ooooh. Bass. That's my true love. I love to play Bass. It's my favorite. I'm saving up for a Six String. I can't wait. My favorite basslines are from Dream Theater. But I have no idea why I'm talking about me so I'll shut up.
Lujayne
For goodness' sakes, talk about you all you like. I used to play a 5-string bass, but I've always wondered about 6-string ones. Because then aren't your notes getting so high that they're into the same range as regular guitar, and it's not really bass anymore at all...? So I've never really seen the virtue of them. But I could be wrong here, so feel free to educate me in the ways of the 6-string. ^_^ Speaking of too many strings, man, I so totally love the sound of 12-string guitar. -__- I want one of those. So pretty. ;___;
edlib
Hmmm... chimey. I like 12 strings, but I've never owned one. I need to upgrade my acoustic... I have an old, cheap Alvarez. It plays OK, but it doesn't sound very good. I have an old archtop acoustic from the 40s that sounds and plays great,.. but very different from that "Martin" acoustic sound. The Laramie guitars are fantastic... but I really like the Taylors. They seem made for people who started on electrics (like myself.) As for basses, I have a Fender P-Bass from the '70s. It's OK, but the neck seems kinds heavy and clunky. I played a new Jazz bass not that long ago and it felt and sounded great. I want one now! A 5-string one. I've been forcing myself to stay far, farrrr away from all the music stores around here (and working at Berklee, there's a more than a few in the neighborhood) 'cuz I just know that if I walk in to a store,.. I'll walk back out with one! I have no willpower when it comes to such things.

Skate Boy
*Pushes Cracken on the ground* The only reason I want a Six string is because of the songs I'm learning. Like I said, I'm learning a lot of Dream Theater and their bassist, John Myung, does lots of solos on the Bass that you can't do without the Sixth String. That's the only reason I want one. But, it couldn't hurt to have that Sixth string on there.
