building a defensive character

KotOR is going to be the first RPG that I will have ever played, so I don't really know a whole lot about how it works. I only have a basic (at best) understanding. LOL!!

What stats (STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, CHA) are the most important and least important for a defensive character?

lets say my character's personality is like this:

1) uses reason over action but can "handle his own" when reason fails

2) very quick reflexes and very fast - making him difficult to hit (excellent with lightsaber, excellent defense)

3) defense FIRST, but when attacking, QUICK and LETHAL

4) strong use of the basic force powers

5) using force powers only for knowledge and information, and for combat ONLY when absolutely necessary

If you were building this character what would his stats be? Why? What starting class? Jedi class?

(as you can tell I'm gonna be a goody-goody the first time LOL)

Okay, being the cool D&D DM that I am :) , here are some tips for you :)

Maybe I will post a starters guide to chara creation sometime next week :)

Your most important attribute is dexerity, which is both used for defense, as well as ranged combat. So if you have a high dexterity [like 16 for example], you will get a nice bonus to initiative [you draw fast], defense and ranged shooting.

Strength is the least important to you, as it is just sued for melee damage and hitting, as well as some skills.

For the rest, you might want to give a reasonable amount to intelligence and wisdom.

Hope that helps, if you have further questions, ask me :)

Unless I'm much mistaken, you can't begin the game as a Jedi class-though I could be wrong.

5) using force powers only for knowledge and information, and for combat ONLY when absolutely necessary

Aren't knowledge and information very nearly the same thing? I suppose knowledge is more like wisdom, and information is more like data, but still...

Adn yes, you are indeed a goody-goody :D

  • 1 year later...

As for your Jedi classes, you seem to want a lot of Force Powers. Force Dominate can come handy and Force Heal is absolutely necessary. You don't want to lose out on combat either...

So I recommend you become a Jedi Sentinel (Uh... the one with the yellow blade)

You can always change the blade colour later.

And uh, high CON will give hi HP and Defense, right?

Dexterity gives you a higher defense (which makes it harder for enemies to hit you) and reflex save, plus it adds to your accuracy with ranged weapons (and to accuracy with lightsabers if your dexterity is higher than your strength).

Constitution increases your amount of hit points, which is important to every class, and it boosts your fortitude save.

Wisdom and Charisma both adds to your amount of force points and makes it harder for enemies to save against your force powers.

Intelligence has no affect on combat, but it increases the amount of points you get to spend on skills (non-combat abillities).

If you want a defensive character a high dexterity is essential, and I would strongly recommend a relatively high constitution as well, because defense has no effect on force powers and grenades and your character should be able to take some damage. Don't spend many points on strength because as I said dexterity adds to your accuracy with lightsabers if it's higher than strength and you said you wanted a defensive character. There's also some items in the game that boost your strength considerably.

If you're a consular you should spend some points in wisdom and charisma because a consular's greatest strength and most important ability is a strong command of the force. I would recommend starting out with 14 in each of these attributes and upgrade one of them to 16 or 18 as you proceed through the game.

If you want a skillfull character a sentinel is the best choice because they get more skill points than the other jedi classes. They get an average amount of both Force Points and Hit Points.

The guardian is the jedi class best suited for physical combat, they get many HP but few FP.

When it comes to the starting classes it depends on what you want. If you want the best possible fighter pick soldier, if you want a skillfull, less combat orientated character be a scout or a scoundrel. A scout gets more HP and feats than a scoundrel, but a scoundrel gets a few more skill points and a higher defense.

Hope I could help you out. Every fact I mentioned here I know is true, I've completed the game over 25 times.
