  1. Yea, I’m kinda wondering the same. Maybe it’s better not to have it revealed.. Unless it’s really mind-blowingly cool - then reveal it by all means! 😆
  2. Just throwing this out there... but I just looked up the Escape cover art on Google and it made me so happy
  3. I'm so excited that I really can't find the right words to express it! Can't wait to hear your voice delivering new lines and making me laugh my ass off again! I'm still in disbelief that we're getting another game after all these years - thank you for being a part of it!!!
  4. Is this a returning or new voice actor ?
  5. Okay, I know I'm just desperate for news, but has anyone noticed this green Grog before?
  6. Well, I do like puzzles, but some of the things you mentioned ring true to me as well. I generally try to complete the games without help, but every time I end up breaking down at least once and grab a walkthrough or look something up. Usually I end up feeling a bit guilty afterwards, especially if it was something that was really logical. But like I said, I don't think I've made it through even one game without a little hint. Now hint systems are interesting. My only experience with them has been TP, and to be honest I ended up using it a few times. Unfortunately once I give in once, I tend to have lower and lower patience and want to keep the story moving. Still felt a feeling of guilt afterwards, but maybe not as much as if I looked it up on the internet. Not that there should be a feeling of guilt. As others have mentioned, I think that as long as you're enjoying the game however you approach it is really just your own taste.
  7. As others have already mentioned, I absolutely can't wait for the music! I'm so excited that Land will be involved again - I can't wait to hear the Melee themes!
  8. Well, I've never taken canon that seriously... I always interpreted "washed up" as "ended up". That could be through a "starship holodeck" rather than literally "washed up" by the ocean waves for all I'm concerned. I also don't think that the Memoirs of Guybrush Threepwood can be taken as literal canon as well, as a) he probably has a pretty fuzzy memory of some events and b) he probably embellishes others. Do I think he actually was washed up by the waves as shown in Escape, and then he turns to some non-existent camera and says out loud "I want to be a pirate!". No, and maybe this is why Herman's backstory didn't bother me that much either (and I still don't consider it a plothole). I think there are a lot of things in the MI series that are not supposed to be taken so literally - it's really how characters want to remember events rather than a historically accurate account of what really happened.
  9. Oooooh, that sounds interesting! I'm really starting to wonder now if there is a connection between Ron's two tweets...
  10. Yea, that sounds about right. I'm still feeling immensely grateful that we will be getting another game, however it turns out. It also inspired me to go back and replay the others after 12+ years so that's a positive too. Heck, it even got me to play TP and Labyrinth for the first time!
  11. Haha - definitely true! I think I'm mostly (partly?) to blame for both conversations recently! Man, when can we get some more fresh news so we can obsess over it instead?!
  12. Actually, that's not what I meant either. My *sigh* was just from the frustration at the feeling a need to defend being a fan of a LucasArts adventure game on a LucasArts adventure game fan site. Now, to be clear that tiredness is not directed at you or anyone here. In fact, I have generally found the group at Mixnmojo to be much more clear/verbose in their reasoning, and although I don't necessarily agree with some of the points, I respect them as valid reasons for not liking EFMI (or not liking it as much). Generally it's been a pretty robust debate, rather than some of the things I've seen in other MI fan groups on FB, such as "anything after Curse **beeping** sucked!". In fact, you seem to have a pretty informed decision, so I definitely respect it. You've played it multiple times and although I find it sad that your opinion for EFMI has gone downhill, opinions change. In fact, this time playing through them again my opinion of MI2 changed slightly for the worse as well. I also recognize that this is what fans do - they pick apart their favourite games/movies/tv shows/songs/etc., compare them with each other, and basically overanalyze them to death. And just because you're a fan of one doesn't mean you are a fan of all. Maybe you liked it but there were just some things that didn't seem right... or simply that one did suck for you for some reason. Anyways, the negativity that surrounded EFMI online, a game that I dearly loved when I first played it, was my first introduction of the negative or 'dark' side of fan communities back in 2000, so I guess I'm just sensitive. With the reaction to RtMI's graphics recently, it brought back a lot of memories of the fan reaction to EFMI. But to address your other points more related to RtMI, I also am relieved that Ron isn't just ignoring everything after MI2... but strangely I don't think I would have been that upset if he had. I guess I don't think it's my place try to influence creators when they are making their art (especially when they've been working on it for 2 years already!), so seeing as Ron created MI, my thoughts are that he can do whatever the *beep* he wants! Anyways, sorry for the long rant, and please know that nothing in here is directed at you. I've just been feeling a bit sad at all the negativity in the LA/MI community recently, so I've been debating whether I should disappear (again) for a while when RtMI is first released.
  13. *Sigh* I’m too tired to write a proper response, but I guess this is one thing that really bugs me. EFMI IS Monkey Island… as much as any of the others Whether they use it as inspiration or not doesn’t really bother me, but I hope they at least respect that it’s an important chapter in the series.
  14. Cool, I'll try to look back at it. This thread is getting ridiculously long!
  15. Sooo... am I the only one that played through MI1 thinking that the "secret" was just that there was a whole system of catacombs beneath the monkey head, which led to LeChuck's secret hideout? I thought Monkey Island hiding LeChuck's lair was a big enough secret, and never thought to look for something more... That is until I went online ~5 years later and saw everyone obsessing over what they thought was the REAL Secret of Monkey Island.
  16. Hmm... I've heard this point before and the references to modern times are more than before, I'll give you that. However, it really doesn't seem inconsistent to me as those references started in MI1. The grog machine, references to tourism on Meathook's island, the PTA minutes, the door to the cannibal's hut that eventually turned into a beeping computerized door... there's a bunch others that I'm forgetting at the moment, but far as I'm concerned the MI games never did take themselves that seriously and those "charming references here and there" were actually pretty prevalent. Anyways, it is about balance, so I guess the balance for you wasn't right, but for me it wasn't anything concerning. Now would I want more of those references than in EFMI? Probably not. But it didn't cross the line for me.
  17. And yes, going back on topic, I think the safest bet is to lower any and all expectations. Unfortunately after 30 years there's so much potential for people to be disappointed...
  18. Okay, I understand that point. But overall I really don't think it did divert that much. It's a new story, there's a new interface, but it's still a pirate adventure game.
  19. Well, I have to disagree with this - I actually found that COMI had aged the most. MI1, MI2, and EFMI looked about as I remembered, but I was surprised by the low resolution of Curse.
  20. You know, from my perspective it was more "I loved that game!! Wait... why are there so many vocal people online that hate it so much?!" First time through I just really enjoyed it - the story, humour, graphics, puzzles, music, ending - all of it. Nothing bothered me, and in many ways it seemed to be the next logical step from COMI. Sure, you can pick it apart if you want, but none of those things that kept coming up bothered me in the slightest. I had just played GF so the controls felt improved. I thought the ending was epic. And still don't know what people's problem with Monkey Kombat is (it's not really that hard to make a hexagon and write down the combinations - takes about the same amount of time as any of the insult sword fighting). I liked the 3D graphics with the 2D backgrounds. Honestly, I just think people don't like change (lots of evidence of that recently with the reaction to the graphics in RTMI). Anyways, if you want I could pick things apart about each of the MI games. They aren't perfect, but they are still my favourite series of all time. I just strongly believe that EFMI is highly underrated and overhated. It really doesn't deserve the bashing it gets.
  21. Definitely not Curse... I know I was thinking of MI2. That being said, you are probably right - my memory has gotten terrible over the last 5 years (kids + lack of sleep will do that).
  22. Yea, my ordering changed as well when I replayed them all recently. It's strange how your memory of each of the games doesn't quite match your experience when replay them again. Especially after 12 - 15 years. Before Tales came out I used to order them as MI2, EFMI, COMI, MI1. This time through my favourite changed to EFMI.
  23. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's this on par with TP? I believe Ron mentioned the number 14,000 in one of his blog posts..
  24. Hmm.. okay, I guess you're right.... For some reason I have a very clear imagine in my mind of that screenshot above without the boat. I wonder where I would have gotten that idea from... Anyways, thanks for checking it out in ScummVM!
