  1. I fixed the workbenches mod. There was a typo in the installer for the double bladed sabres. A new version has been uploaded to kotorfiles pending approval.

If you wish to manually edit, open the itemcreate and itemcreatemira 2da files in kotorTool and edit the labels for the double bladed lightsabres by adding another zero.

eg. dblsbr01 becomes dblsbr001, dblsbr02 becomes dblsbr002, etc. Just for the double bladed sabres, the single hilts just have one zero.

Otherwise download the new version (3.1) when it appears at kotorfiles in the next day or two, uninstall the previous version (use backups folder) and install the new one using the tsl installer.

  2. there's a 15th level requirement as well so that you generally can't start building workbench lightsabres until you've completed the lightsabre quest.

  3. Primarily my username, a feature of several networking forums is drawn from some genuine political concerns between western civilisation as we presume it to be and Eastern Europe. Most particularly of late I am severly concerned about matters in Central Asia. The current Iranian debarcle has been making some CIS district commanders nervous about US/NATO intentions in the Black Sea Region, which could very well turn nuclear, only it won't be Iran you need to be worried about. Matters in the Ukraine/Crimean and Transcausasus Strategic District really should be the Pentagon's primary concern at this point, according to international journalists.

Think of the Kremlin as the Vanir, the Pentagon as the Æsir. Those treaties are damn important and they don't include running around the southern and southeast borders of the Caspian Sea. Actual European missile defence treaties are really aimed at the CIS, not Iran.

  4. Vanir as opposed to Æsir (the human gods) are more ancient in development historically, stretching back to a time before the Nordic mythology was fully evolved, in the Germanic regions ca. 3rd Century BC to 5th Century AD (the Dark Ages, northeast Rhineland Region). It is generally assumed the Vanir represent an amalgamation of the Celtic mythology with more traditional Germanic-Nordic superstition. In this sense the Vanir represent the Faerie, which were the original Celtic deific ancestral spirits, whom could be contacted by mortals by conducting ceremonies at Sidhe or burial mounds, which were presumed to form gateways to the Afterworld, or Tir Na N'Og. The Vanir are therefore the ancient Celtic pantheon, where the Æsir are the more contemporary Germanic and Nordic pantheon. They had some treaties between them.

  5. Because Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit originally used Nordic mythology as a basis and this formed the background of most modern fantasy literature, Nordic mythology is often used separately by other fantasy authors, so it is not unusual that aspects of Nordic mythology like the name Vanir may appear in newer fantasy literature.

The Nordic deities which were of Vanir stock include the sea God Njord, his wife Nerthus, and their twin children Freja and Frei. Their children feature in a number of famous Norse tales.

  6. jsfbighorse, the bug you mention is a vanilla bug with TSL, there is a fix you can download for it which replaces the handmaiden.dlg file, which is what is causing the bug. It is not from my mod.

Hi Nick, vanir could very well be an elf from Eragon, since the name is the Norse term for the elven deities which populated vanaheim, a city in alfheim. According to historical Nordic mythology there are a number of alternate dimensions which include the realm of the human Gods, Asgard, then the human realm we live in, Midgard, and the realm of the elves, Alfheim. Just as Asgard is a walled human city amid the realm of Jotunheim (the land of the intelligent and civilised Giantish creatures, many of whom are related to human deities), Vanaheim is the corresponding walled city of the Vanir, ancient nature deities amid the land of the elves, Alfheim.

  7. Sure, hit me up with this idea of yours. I'm open to anything at this point.

Still having major trouble on granting force powers at level up. I'm about to give up on it.

I have no trouble with the script itself, it's getting the script to fire that's a problem. My choices are putting it in every single area directory (prohibitively time consuming) or putting an include on every other script in the game.

Level up is hardcoded, so I can't put an include on it. The heartbeat script doesn't seem to work for it. I guess it's just trial and error on finding the right random script to have an include that will fire it between levels (so they are granted before level up during the preceding level which is fine since they don't affect the PC/NPC until you're choosing force powers).

Also I'm happy to work on any other mods.

  9. lol thanks for the link there GTA, I'll be sure to pop into the general crazies forum there when I get bored, you're right, some of those threads look right up my alley :p

Am not really much of an expert on electricity, have a healthy fear of electricity, know a little physics, had a friend who was in the electrical trade and picked up a few things, that's about it. You'd lose me as soon as you started on the math.

  10. Cool, looks good. Downloading...

  11. Thankyou muchly, Qliveur. It's a very nice feeling to be welcomed. The thread looks interesting, I'll read on.

  12. I did quite a bit of investigation into martial arts, as part of a youth quest of mine (my warrior errantry as it is called by the masters).

These two traditions I mentioned are the closest in the world today to the original Chinese spiritualism which also developed concurrantly but independently into modern Chinese Medicine and naturopathy (which many say has become too commericalised yada yada yada).

  13. Advantages that can even the odds say, when someone twice your size starts brawling you. It is a good portion of the higher martial arts teachings, part of the reason the community regards a practitioner in his martial arts prime at 50 as opposed to something like 25 for a football player or a boxer.

They are integral elements of several bujinkan ryuha still active in Japan (very rare, very exclusive martial arts schools with very ancient traditions). One is budoka (Togakure Ryu Budo Taijutsu) many believe to have become too commercialised (even though few hear of it or recognise it for what it is when they do), another is kobudo (Takamatsu Ryuha Kobudo) which many consider to stylised and traditional (very few people know about this highly reputable school). It really depends on your personal flavour, traditionalist or improvisationalist (both have elements of either, but each has their respective emphasis).

  14. What you should also look up is "go goyo" and "inyo gogyo setsu" and "go dai." These are also five element transformation theories taken directly from Chinese mediaeval science. They are collectively known as kuji noho or "magic" and work upon the basis that the supernatural is simply the mundane being poorly understood by a given speculator. Thus it is more trickery than paranormal, but the trick is in the minds of the enemy and has been placed there by his culturing, so its effects are identical to the very magic of his wildest fantasies. He thinks you're electrocuting him, he sees electricity, our minds are funny little things which work in this way. It's how we see things like ghosts, investigate them, understand the causes, see them no longer. Kuji noho seeks to work this to advantage under benevolent requirements. By understanding more about how life works and being also familiar with psychology, one has tremendous advantages under certain circumstances.

  15. G'day mate. Well been modding for flight sims (IL2) and made a career change (bartender). I decided to turn my disproportionate concerns with political topics on these forums a while back into a recognition that I must've been a bit uptight taking inconsequential statements so seriously, taking responsibility meant a few life changes. So now I'm back in a second wind. It's the Buddhist in me or the Christianity or something.

Some interesting comments you've made on ancient Chinese martial spirituality. You should google "goton po" (five element escape method) for one physical manifestation of these beliefs, or how they are actually used to gain real world results. It falls under the umbrella of Inton or "magical casting of illusion."

  16. Which martial art(s) do you study? I like to think of the generic martial arts philosophy as "not having to apolegise for being a good person."

    :D

  17. Hey man. Well to be honest I've been into a bit, probably the only hard science I don't have some kind of grounding in is biological sciences. First loves were theoretical (astro) physics and military (aviation) history, then all the tangents and associations. I moderated a Q&A sci forum for a NASA geophysicist a few years ago (specialising in astronomical/astrophysics at undergrad level) and spend a bit of time yacking with a PhD theoretical physicist on facebook. Pretty active on lots of forums. Have a pretty good sized WW2 library. Did an RAAF cadetship and began rudimentary pilot training before family issues got in the way and life kinda changed a little, long story, long time ago.

As for technologies I raced a streetcar on a tight budget for a few years. Started playing around with computers before putting that on hold and getting caught up in books I've been writing for the last year or so.

WW2 fiction, fighter planes and alternate history on the Eastern Front.

  18. Good mate. Not from Russia no. Family from Germany and Poland, moved to Australia a little while after the Soviets moved in (they escaped in the fifties). Grandma was a Nazi actually, Grandad is a typical Pole, Catholic and a hard worker. It was an odd enough combination to make my mum flip out so I've got the whole broken home story thing going. Sisters in foster homes, me on the streets. All good now, I'm writing some books should get published sometime next year. First one WW2 of course, next is a sci fi.
