Mozilla Firebird

Do any of you guys use Firebird or any other Mozilla variants? I was skeptical at first, since I didn't think anything could be better than IE...but I was definitely wrong.

The single best feature of Mozilla is the pop-up blocker. With IE, I was experiencing 2 or 3 popups just upon initiation of the program. I've installed spyware blockers, I use adware, but nothing works. But, with Firebird...I haven't had a single pop up AT ALL for a week. AMAZING

The only thing that I've been having trouble with when using Mozilla is Flash sites. For some reason, I can't get the flash plugin to install correctly. But, I can just copy paste the url into IE when I need to see a flash site for now.

Anyways, take a look at Mozilla.org to download a copy for your os if it sounds good to you :)

I've been using Firebird for a week or so now, it's very nice :)

Definitely a much better browser...still need to wait for some fixes, though.

Mozilla/Firebird has Google search built in, and you can add custom ones more easily and in a less haphazard way than you can with IE :)

Give it a try :D

Excellent, another one to see the light :D

I've been using Firebird on and off since late last year, and with version 0.7 I'm almost ready to leave IE forever... It's a lot more stable than the 0.6x versions I'd tried previously, and it feels a lot more polished over all...

OpenSource people generally tend to dislike popups, so it's hardly surprising that it's implementation is flawless :D *huggles opensource community*

I had a bit of trouble with it myself... You have to make certain you install it in the plugins folder... Worked great for me once I got the installer to behave =)

I wholeheartedly recommend Firebird to those who are tired of IE being so spyware/adware-friendly, and who might like the other features like tabbed browsing - and built-in support for skins :D

Firbird also adheres to web standards far more than IE does, which is both a blessing and a curse - it doesn't like mal-formed and broken code, whereas IE laps it up... Hardly surprising that M$ Internet Explorer likes bad code, though ;P

All webmasters should use Mozilla or Firebird as benchmarks to check standards-compatibility of their sites, IMHO - if it looks great in FB, it'll look just as good in IE, because the code is good.

And if you don't like something about Firebird... Well, there's always the option to download the sourcecode and re-write portions of it, if you're so inclined ;)

I, too, use Opera 7. I liked it so much I bought it. The only problem I get is occasional discrimination by IE designed sites... microshaft only codes that won't work in Netscape or Opera... but overall, Opera works very well. I never see popups... I also use the feature that lets me see every link on the page in one table... that one is fun.

In addition, Opera's email client is invunerable to the Outlook/Outlook Express worms and viruses.

I tried Mozilla a few times and used it on the machine at my college... it seems far slower, especially in loading windows.

Haven't tried firebird, but i like opera.

Does firebird do tabbed browsing? and most importantly, does it recover where you left off if it crashes? I tend to browse about 10 sites at once, so when IE crashed it was a nightmare as i could never find my way back to half of them.

THe only problem I have is that there are simply too many sites out there that won't work with opera (and i assume firebird).

THe best compromise i found was Avant Browser, which is basically an opera skin for IE... so you get the best of both worlds, opera's interface and features with IE's more supported rendering engine.

i think you can get it at http://www.avantbrowser.com
