Need Tutorial on weighting meshes

Hi all, in light of JA's implementation of new sub-technologies in the quake engine (rag doll, collision, etcetera) I am embarking on a quest to make a dynamic cloak for the game, I have some experience in coding, about a year and a half in 3d modeling and 6 years in 2d digital artwork and design. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be most helpful.
