Compaqs suck, Dell doesn't.

Do any of you people that say Dell sucks even have a Dell? Seriously, they're fine....I've had a Dell desktop for 2 years now and we've never had *any* problems with it, unlike my Gateway that had 2 HDD failures and 1 CDROM drive failure. Albeit, they were covered on the warranty, but we lost all of our data twice on the Gateway....

And ironically, buying parts and assembling isn't always cheaper. With holiday sales, I got a brand new Dell computer that was about 300 dollars cheaper than the one I was planning on building.

Go figure.

I hate Dell and Gateway, because their customer service in the UK is abysmal, let alone their flawed products. The only good thing I can say about them is that their PC's still work 7 years on with every day use - at my workplace. But I had to resolve every single technical issue with those machines myself. So I'm glad Gateway pulled out of the UK market...and I wish Dell would follow suit.

I also hate Compaq, Olivetti, Packard Bell, and to an extent, Hewlet Packard (they make some decent printers though). I don't like Time computers. Viglen was always overpriced. I'll never forgive MJN for taking an order, taking our money, and then going bankrupt.

You know...when it boils right down to it, a lot of PC makers are basically crap in one way or another. Whether it's cutting corners with the technology, overpricing their products, crappy customer support or just plain naff quotient, there are few decent PC builders in the marketplace.

Evesham and Mesh are two of the better PC manufacturers in the UK at the moment.

DIY looks ever more appealing...

Sorry, but I HAVE had a Dell Computer. It was an Dimension, an it kept crashing on me. When it froze up with the frickin "This computer has caused an illegal operation," I shut it off manually after ctrl+alt+delete. Then, after it rebooted, it always popped up a message saying it couldn't find a PS/2 mouse connected. WHAT??? Anyways, I don't care fro TECH support. Most tech support is crappy anyway.
