Terrain

I just thought I would add a little something here. Yes....not all maps are exactly square so how do I get my Easy-gen map file into my map now? My map is kind of an 'L' shape.

The way I do it is to make seperate terrain maps for each section of my map. So I pick the biggest spots in my map. Lets say I have only 2 areas in which I can put my terrain in. So I make 2 terrain maps to go into each area. Now how do I fit them in? SCALE key. You can use the SCALE key to make your map fit. Experiment a little bit. Scale in all 3 directions or just one or two. I usually select my WHOLE terrain by completely surrounding the whole map with one single brush and then selection menu / select / select inside. Then scale and move it where you wish.

I could also CLONE the terrain then rotate it and maybe cut the bottom off a little for different elevation instead of making 2 Easy-Gen maps.

Let me know if I don't know what the hell I'm talking about or at the very least post an easier way if there is one...thanks guys.

Bah..this is my first REAL use of Easygen in a map and it shows up transparent....LOL. Oh..it's solid but I can see through it!! Any ideas? This is for a M/P JK2 map BTW...but I do plan on doing the same map in JA.

Is it because I don't know how to use the other compiler? (which I don't. I know how to add command lines but they don't work..

Just a quick question about Easgen, I'm using it right now to make a rendition of the Dune Sea on Tatooine, and I want to make the entire terrain in one chunk. I have a terrain template that is about 1800X1850 pixels and when i load it, it takes about an hour for radiant to open it. Is there a better way to make my terrain (I.E smaller chunks that I put together by hand?)

Maybe you didn't read the tutorial... one pixel of heightmap data correspons to one brush vertex of actual terrain. 1800x1850 pixels = 1801 brushes by 1851 brushes to a side on your terrain func_group. That comes out to 3333651 brushes. That's only about three million, three hundred thousand over the limits of the Quake engine. Please take a moment and re-read the tutorial (or even read it for the first time). Maybe even read it again after that. And a third time, just for good luck. Read every word. At least once. Don't just look at the pictures.
