Thrik
Note: This is probably not the slightest bit new so if you've seen it all before.. run away! I came across this really freaky article earlier. It's basically the photographic journey of a biker going through an area which suffered a nuclear accident and thousands of people died due to the problem. The town was pretty much totally abandoned, isolated and everything is more or less how it was back in the 1980's. It really is creepy. Make sure to go through all of the pictures and you'll see town parks with all of the children's toys still there, falling apart.. disused for years and years.. houses, hotels and cafes just left.. a nursery/school/something full of children's gas masks.. it's rather like something out of Silent Hill. And quite sad. Click here for the page, and here's an arial photo she took of the dead town from the roof of a building:
Alien426
That's what intrigues me about the game Stalker. I think what will distinguish games in the future may be primarily the scenario. I won't need another World War 2 game ever again. Far Cry's Caribbean islands and broken-down (Japanese?) bunkers and Half-Life's science complex are nice. Of course Full Throttle and Grim Fandango etc. have atmospheric settings.
