Improved Stormtrooper

@Hapslash

Thank you very much! You have done great work. I love your Improved Stormtrooper. I wish I knew how to replace the original stormtrooper in the game with your version. (Does anyone know if it's possible?) I have just one question about a detail of your stormtrooper. What is this black item behind the left leg (stormtrooper_02.jpg)? Is this a holster for the blaster rifle? I didn't notice that in the movies.

I set up the new stormtrooper file so it would replace the original. All you should have to do is put the pk3 into your base folder,...

Yeah,... That's the Stormtrooper's holster. Because of it's position it's not the easiest to see from the front, and during filming they didn't bother to make sure that every stormtrooper had one.

If you were to watch the movies again, you'd see them.

Some Stormtroopers indeed had holsters. They're probably not standard-issue, though. I changed the Stormtrooper1 NPC to turn the holster surface off, so that only Stormtrooper2 has the holster. This balances it out a little and adds some variety as well. :)

Bah, tags aren't allowed on this forum! :mad:

@HapSlash

It works now. Impressive! I've seen Epsiode IV and V again, and now I've noticed that some of the stromtroopers are wearing a holster (what makes more sense) and some not. You really have an eye for details. A pitty that the modellers from Jedi Outcast haven't thought about this.

Modellers at Ravensoft are god enough, they're just not as accurate and obsessive with details as Hap. They also, usually, have a more tight deadline, so they can't afford to beware of every single detail.

I would say, thank god they are not as accurate and histerical for detail, or we, hobbist modellers, would be heavily criticized and not the other way around.

Congrats on finishing the stormtrooper Hap, it looks exactly as in the movies.

So, when is the scout trooper coming out? ;).

Also, since it's for an action game where you blast them mere seconds after the become visible, most other people probably wouldn't notice those fine details anyway.

Thanks,... It's hard to say. I'm still having dificulties getting the Imperial Oficer in game right now. Then I was wanting to finish out the Gamorrean. But, since you asked, here's a pic of the scout trooper that I never did get around to posting.

While in some pics it may not look it, the Darth Vader model is actually far from being finished.

One of the things I'll do while working on a model, is to mock up the different parts and then assign them a base color similar to what I'll want for that part's skin, an extra added glossy shine over the solid colored armor pieces help them stand out more, and sometimes I'll even put together a temporary texture,... that way I can get a better Idea how the model will look in the end.

If I were to show a more factual representation as of how Vader looks right now, it would appear more like this.

I'm not sure just when I'll get back to it either. Right now I'm trying to focus on the models that will be used in the mod first, then on the ones that might get used. Then, every so often, I'll sporadically work on one of the other models just for a break. But since Vader isn't a very high priority, I'll tend to only work on him when the mood strikes me.

@CortoCG

That's what I'm dreaming about. A MOD where you can play as Luke Skywalker against Darth Vader. I liked the secret level of "Mysteries of the Sith" where you could play as Luke Skywalker in Bespin. It was only one level, but it was very cool to fight against Bobba Fett or Darth Vader (in an improved version from some fans) in the carbonite chamber.

By the way, what do you think about the Noghris in Jedi Academy? I've read the Thrawn-trilogy by Timothy Zahn, and somehow I don't like the appearance of them in Jedi Acedmy. I've expected something more. The weapons aren't the same as they were dscribed in the books, too.

Sorry CortoCG, but this is MY thread, so I decide what belongs to this thread and what not ;) But you're absolutely right, this doesn't belong to the topic anymore. But I didn't want to start a whole new thread only for some little impressions. If you want to write something to the last point, so feel free to do so, otherwise we should let this thread die now.

I didn't found some pictures from the game of them, but I'll try to make some screenshots for you soon. Have you played MotS? Do you have seen the Noghris there? Here is what I found so far on the Star Wars homepage:

This picture seems to be of one the Star Wars comics:

And this picture appears to be of a scene of Epsiode II (I think it's the scene where you see the little kids in the Jedi Academy trained by Yoda):

And at last:

The "big blue ape" look of the Noghri in MotS is based directly on the "graphic novelisation" of the first Zahn Trilogy. Most of the characters in game are based on the counterparts in that comic book series.

The ones in JA (to me) look more like how they "should be" (though they I still imagined them differently in my mind, more like Baraka from Mortal Kombat games only without the blades coming out of his arms).

That's the thing with a book, you get different interpretations of the descriptions, etc. not like a movie where this is "one right way" everything is supposed to look like (with some suspension of disbelief, like Luke doesn't HAVE to look like Mark Hamill).

actually they stated he is not a noghri. whipid comes to mind, though.

i also noticed in JA, the icons, as well as the chest on one team color, use older (more interesting, imo) textures on the flesh.

@t3rr0r

You're right. I also found this out today (http://www.starwars.com/community/askjc/jocasta/askjc20020805.html).

But there is a great similarity from the outer appearance when you see this picture from a Noghri: http://rules.swcombine.com/images/races/Noghri_full.gif

@Kurgan

I never saw a Noghri from the "graphic novelisation". Do you have a picture of it?

I don't own it, but I suppose I could grab a small cropped scan from the library.

On another tangentially related note, the link to Hapslash's website from the DF mod website links page is outdated. And the link to "The Complete Dark Forces Resource" gives a message that the site has been deactivated for inactivity, although it appears to be possibly reversible. Sorry to put this thread off-topic again, but it seemed better than starting a new one.
