Sooo, i see this thread is all about 1 only site... anyway, with your permission (if not you can edit this post, of course) i'll announce the "creation" of a modding community for kotor. Some may know forgottenwars.net as a hosting site for several IE mods (baldur's gate and icewind dale related), but with the release of the 1st kotor mod its officially open.

Yes you have free hosting, yes you have a custom website and login to the site (so you dont only upload a mod and forget about it, you can customize your site as well and make announcements), yes you can get your very own forums for your mod if you want to.

Its still very new alright, but it has more "freedom" so to say.

Anyway, if you want you can check it out: http://kotor.forgottenwars.net :)

Possibly the error has something to do with being the mods author?

It is not related to the fact of being the author of the mod: I posted stuff in some of my mods. Now I am having the same problem posting comments for other's mods too :(

Well then so much for that 'author of mod being cause of comment error' theory. :(

That is very wierd, and it gives that posting error it to me in both IE and Firefox, so it doesn't have to do with a specific browser, possibly a java file on pcgamemods system has become corrupted?

:D

You'll notice that I don't host my stuff on PCGM's anymore. I got tired of wrestling with it.

Darth333 and I are not talking about uploading mod files, no problems there, it is about not being able to post comments, in the comments area on the mods themselves!

I had some problems with uploading to pcgamemods in the beginning with IE, but they went away when I installed the Mozilla Firefox Browser, I have had no real problems with uploads since.

Well that most definately sucks!

It seems some people have difficulties with pcgamemods site, I know Mono_Giganto had some as well!

I can see why you made a mod website of your own! :D

Hey, guys, hold up...

If you have trouble with pcgamemods, and are unable even to post comments, there is now an alternative. As both me and Immortality have mentioned, Forgotten Wars have opened a KotOR-mods section.

Ill quote another post by myself:

Forgotten Wars, the largest modding community for IE-games have now opened their own Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic-section.

You can find it here, and the forums here.

We can host any of your KotOR-mods:

- It's completely FREE!

- No monthly bandwidth limit!

- Unlimited FTP space!

- Website hosting!

- An own forum where YOUR mod can be discussed!

- 3D Downloads file hosting (upon request)!

- Many available mirrors (upon request)!

- Completed mods/projects will gain access to the fw.net website where they can add mod pages and post news!

From what I can read here, pcgamemods doesn't have all these advantages.

It has these, the rest I don't really see that great of a need in.

Really? Does every mod have it's own forum, where the specific mod is discussed? I must've missed that.

Besides, you get to work with the best forum-staff! Ehh.... well.... ehh.... whatever.....:p;)

At this time yes, its overkill. But it all depends on the complexity of the mod. When someone makes a mod that is a complete change of dialogs, creating new npcs with dialogs to enter the story, a new plaet with quests, new areas.... well, then i assume a forum just for it is necessary... till then, we can live with only 1 :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey! Redhawke and all the other who have problems posting comments at pcgamemods, Kengo told me this:

About the commenting: Last I heard from Sergio, a limit was set on comment length. So it might just be that people are trying to post comments that are too long and they are being blocked. The comments section has been known to be patchy from time to time, so it may be something a bit more problematic, in which case hopefully it will be sorted in good time.

Don't write a romance: try shorter comments and it should work :)

That is definately not what is happening with me then... my post on the Revan/Sith/Bastila's Item Pack comments was short;

I am aware of the problem and am in the process of patching it, thanks Rebel!

And on the Revan The White Mod Comments;

You find Revans Robes on Nemo's corpse on Dantooine.

Far from novel length! :(

EDIT: Thanks Darth333! :D

Hey guys - thanks a lot to Darth333 for letting me know about the problem. Sorry I didn't pick up on your post here RedHawke, I haven't been on LucasForums much of late.

These problems you guys are experiencing seem rather widespread, I'm unsure if they're just limited to the KotoR section, but I kinda doubt that they will be. I've passed this info on to my boss at PCGM, Sergio, so hopefully he'll be able to help!

Please let us know if there are any other ways we can help improve things at PCGM :)

I PMed Kengo about this, I noticed this today about the java applet you have to download to submit a mod.

Originally PMed by Me

I think I've found out what it may be. The java applet! Recently I got rid of it, cause I figured I didn't need it, since I wasn't able to get to pcgamemods. Then today, I could! But then today, I went to submit a mod, and redownloaded the applet, and now I can't get back! I'm going to run AdAware or something to see if it gets picked up.

The idea of pcgamemods is that it provides a central and practical place to upload/download mods. Takes a few minutes to upload a new mod there, without worrying about bandwidth. When you go to the kotor page, you have an impressive list of mods ready for download. So when someone looks for a mod, it is a quick reference. You don't have to look all over the web.

Many modders also have a personal website. I have a geocities website too (I removed the link this week because it's being updated).

It has its flaws but Kengo makes what he can to answer our needs :) The comment thing seems to be a bug. Geocities is not perfect either: my website is down 1/2 of the time for exceeding the bandwidth...:( In general, pcgamemods is reliable.
