SamNMax
Any Americans catch the special on the Manson Family on CBS last night? What the Hell is wrong with hippies? I mean, even they should have enough sence to know that Chalie is not Jesus. Especailly when Manson told them to brutally kill people for no really good reason. Anyway, the specail was really interesting, but I can't belive Manson's still alive. By the way, Helter Skelter was supposed to be the last war in the world. It was race against race and the blacks were the true evil army. Manson and his group of ex-heads were killing people because they thought people were trying to keep the Bottomless Pit to Hell away from them. They wanted to find this pit so they had a place to hide out until Helter Skelter passed. When the war was over, Manson aka Jesus Christ would have control of the world once again. Hell of a story, huh?

Zoom Rabbit
I would tell you what the hell is wrong with hippies, but for some odd reason I'm really quite too lazy to go into it. Dr. McCoy: We've seen this before. It's okay--I can mind-meld us out of this.

SamNMax
I know they weren't really "hippies". I just couldn't find the right words for the group.
Reaper Girl
I didn't see it, but my friend "Tori" knows about nice peoples, like Jack teh Ripper, the Klan, and other pleasent characters. It had something to do with the Beatles, and weird God related stuff. Stuff I'd rather not know.
Zoom Rabbit
No, you had it right the first time...they were hippies. The hippy movement took root in the sixties, a time when a large part of america's youth were questioning the morals and beliefs they'd been raised with. Disillusioned by resistance from government to the civil rights movement and a prolonged war in Vietnam that brought them into direct confrontation (here's something to google: Kent State massacre) the hippies rejected what they'd been taught in search of a new way of living. Drugs were suddenly available, open sexuality became the norm...and alternative religions were on the table. Obviously, not all of those new ideas embraced by the hippies were good ones. Alternative religions turned out to be a gray area at best, when unscrupulous gurus arrived on the scene to prey on the unwary. It started when the Beatles took up study under the Mahesh Yogi in India. Himself a genuine indian mystic, he was a good influence on the *fab four* spiritually, which inspired a generation of american kids to seek their own gurus. The problem? Not many genuine indian mystics on the streets of america, but plenty of con artists and authentic loonies willing to fill the gap. Charlie Manson was of the authentic loony category. In today's america, he wouldn't attract many followers...but in the 'Summer of Love' when so many kids were seeking spiritual truth and too goofed on electric kool-aid to find it, he was able to find enough of the gullible that he could convince them to join his mad cause. So. If your guru has a swastika on his forehead...move along.
