The Story [not a spoiler]

I don't yet have JA. I used to play JO non-stop, until my video card fried. But listening to the communities talk about the prequel movies and complain about their story, I have this to say:

We pretty much already know how it is going to end up; it's simply like watching a movie you have seen. The Lucas Arts games are where original story comes out. And that story is necessarily good. When I first played JO, I was amazed at the depth of character development and unique plot twists. Couple that with problem solving and non-stop action, and you have an "A" movie in interactive form. That is the beauty of these games--not in the intense graphics, nor the huge community that coelesces around it. Those are benefits that come from the well-developed kernel that is the game's basis. Without that kernel, nobody would be interested in the game, and there would be no community, no cult following, no forums with thousands of threads, let alone 454 smilies. :jawa

Just my two cents.

Only the mods have that magic, and I think now is a good time to use it. :D

btw, I didn't quite understand what you said there, Alex. Oh, and allow me to be the first to welcome you to LF, seeing as this is your first post. Hopefully you didn't register to say that and leave, like many others.

Welcome to the boards, Alex.

And, yeah, I get what you're talking about. It's similar to what I said about KotOR a week or so ago. The SW movies are gettting progressively worse, and the SW games are getting progressively better. That is unless they are a movie tie in. Sadly enough, the games as of late have provided much better acting, stories, characters, and enjoyment than the last two movies. Can't say I mind really. The games give me several days of enjoyment, where the movies are good for two and a half hours one time.

I thought the story in JA was okay. It wasn't as good as JO - and certainly not in the same league as JK - but it was enjoyable enough while it lasted.

As for the movies...well, we already knew the bare bones of the prequels before they started making them. We pretty much know what's going to happen in Episode III as well - so some of the magic is lost. It's like knowing the end of a book right from the beginning - there are no real surprises in store, so it has to rely on the strength of the journey to get you to the end.

Anyway, hopefully we'll continue to see some well-crafted stories in the games.
