legameboy
Can anyone help me out? I don't know what the heck is wrong with my computer, but whennever I try to run a game by double-clicking on the shortcut or .exe, it won't load! When I try right-clicking on the game shortcut or .exe, my computer screen refreshes and all of the programs close. What the heck? I've scanned and eliminated all viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, and adware! Somebody help me. :|
RoxStar
Google and Microsoft's website are your friends. Also check your program default settings.

RoxStar
Well, if you are able to, you can right click on a program and then select wth open with feature. This lets you mess around with settings. Same with right click, properties. And if I may ask, how are you posting if none of your .exe files work?
legameboy
I can't right click on any of my game shortcuts or .exes, my computer refreshes if I right-click on them. I can't figure this out for the life of me.
manoman81
Try restarting your computer. BTW, what OS are you running?
legameboy
I have restarted my computer... for the fifth time today. I'm running on Windows XP.
Samuel Dravis
Use CTRL-ALT-DEL to see if an instance of the game is already running in the background. That might be the problem.
legameboy
It isn't, I checked, and none of the games that won't open were running in the Windows Task Manager window, I checked Applications and Processes.
coupes.
Did you play in your registry... maybe you deleted something you shouldn't have...
legameboy
I didn't play with anything in my registry, heck, I don't even know how to get to it.
coupes.
ok, then... can you create new shortcuts on the desktop... if so do they work properly ? also does this problem only affect shortcuts or are you also having problems opening the actual applications ? edit : do you receive any error messages ? legameboy
This affects the actual applications, and I don't get any error messages, my computer just "thinks" for about two seconds (has the cursor of the pointer with the hour glass), then nothing happens. coupes.
Did you install / update any new application recently ? I don't know what your problem is, but you might have to do a system restore, it has saved me multiple times in the past. good luck.
legameboy
I've never done a system restore before... help?
PR-0927
Simple, just go to the Start button, go to All Programs, then Accessories, and the System Tools, and then System Restore. Set the date (not a restore point), to a day when everything was working. Then, it'll restart (takes a long time). When you get back, everything should work. Some files may not be changed as they were though.
coupes.
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore then, chose the first option ( restore my computer... ) and click 'next' Then choose the date you want your computer to 'go back to'. You shoul see all the modifications that were made this day in the right window... *You WILL lose all modifications made to Windows after the selected date and you will most likely lose files that were created/modified after the date as well. So you SHOULD make backups of important stuff you worked on after the selected date...*
legameboy
Alright, thanks for the help, I'll update you all in a day or too since I have to work tommorrow.
Tyrion
You could just backup what you want then reformat/reinstall. Yes it's a desperate measure, but it'll be worth it.
Sabretooth
Reinstall windows without reformatting, works most o' da time
