I Hate to do this, but I have a problem

Ok, my problem starts when I load up the game, it goes through the movies then I get a blank screen and then an error report.

I have the latest Holowan plug-in w/ patch, RedHawk's mods, Achille's mods, and Darth33's mods that aren't already in the plug-in.

I know it has to be something with the mods, because when I take the override folder out it loads up fine. I once tried rebuilding the override folder with the mods and it worked once, then it went kaput. If anyone has a suggestion on what to try next let me know and I'll try it, if not I guess the only option would be to try again. Well I tired of messing w/ it tonight and its 2300 so I'm going out to have fun w/ others ya'll take care and I'll check back later.

If you're positive that it's a mod, then I would recommend removing a mod and then starting the game to see if it starts. When you remove a specific mod and it works, then we can assume with some accuracy that this is the mod causing the problem and take it from there.

In the mean time, make sure that your hardware meets the minimum requirements, you have the most recent video drivers, and version 1.03 of the game.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your help Achilles, I found out I had a corupted download of at least one of the mods so I'm going through and redownloading and then I'm going to very slowly and carefully install them. As for the requirements I think the only thing I had that was questionable was the vido card, I don't think this would've cause the problem, but then again computers are still a bit of a mystery to me sometimes. Well it's a learning experience none the less and that's the fun part.

Actually it was the very first ones. I wasn't even able to get to the starting screen to select a new or load game.

I found out my download of RedHawk's Starforge workbench was corrupted and I didn't have all of the files. I've downloaded a new one and it's not corupted so once I get everything added in again I'll try it and if I have the problem again I'll try Achilles method and let you all know.

If your video card does not meet minimum standards and your game won't even load, then I think we can safely assume that the problem might not be a mod.

Well you could be right, but Mods also add more info and that may have caused to much info for the video card to handle since almost every mod I use adds new or improved textures.

Well anyways I've reinstalled all of the mods I want to use and it seems to be working now. I will definately step up my search for a new video card so I can cancel that out the next time something happens.

Thank you for the help.

hmm, i had the exact same thing happen to me recently. the game would load up, and i would get a blank screen after the movies with the menu music playing in the backround. unfortunately, the only way out of it was to do the ctrl+alt+delete option and close out kotor through the task manager. i found that disabling the movies solved my problem. btw, my system is VERY good, so there is no way that the problem is hardware related. well, at least my problem...

Your able to disable your movies!! Every time I've tried to do that the game sticks me in that room you're in before some of them start. HMMM....Maybe I'll have to try it again.

insert the cd and wait for the game to autorun. then, select the configuration button. from there, you can individually adjust all sorts of options that you can't adjust within the game, including disabling movies.

I've had this problem in the past with mods in general where it crashes on startup usually the problem is a direct result of your RAM being cached out even on a machine with plenty to spare it may just require an extra restart and everything will startup and load.

hmm, i've noticed that helps as well. i've also noticed that if you load Win. XP under a username with NO startup programs (ie, the only programs running are windows and a firewall), then the problem is solved for a LONG time. hmm, i'm gonna have to find a program that will flush all the unused cache on my RAM. in theory, that will help, too.

I too have had problems like this in the past. try to update your video drivers. Thats fixes it for me very time. It always happens after I re-format and forget to get the latest drivers.

Good Luck!

hmm, my latest nvidia drivers were released about a month ago. kinda thought i needed them to play farcry ( :D :D ). oh well, i'll check nvidia's website again right quick...
