Skins and modeling question

I need some help from somebody that knows how to apply skins over character models. What I need is an ithorian skin applied over a character model somebody like canderous so that it would have the fight and attack animations that most of the aliens have. It seems that the ithorian's are not provided with fight animations. I'm not sure if the three eyed aliens(usually swoop race fans at manaan and maybe tantooine) have any combat animations enabling them to use weapons or not. but if not I really could use them as well. I have neither the modeling experience or time available to download gmax and some of the other image editing programs. I really would like these for my upcoming recruitment mod.

Well... As far as i know, it can't be done the way you want. The skin is just applied to the 3D model surface. Skin can't change model geometry.

Therefore, an Ithorian skin placed over Canderous, would still look like a human character.

Until someone can animate the Ithorian 3D model and make it work with Kotor engine, i believe, what you're looking for is impossible.

Sorry

if by geometry are you refering to the race structure of human vs droid etc. or just the outward appearance. because other than droids and if I recall wookies all of them use the same general race structure just modified for height and size such as the yoda models. if your refering to the modeltype header in appearance.2da then I would think it should be a simple apply the texture over a model type B or F character type S seems to be relagated for the models with less movements. Such as gamoreans which only have the axe swinging actions. The ithorians are also a type S and have no attack actions.

If I had hordes of time to download gmax and the other texture editors I would try it myself. Because in theory your models B & F will have the full range of motion with or without a skin.

By geometry i mean this:

Ithorian.jpg - Ithorian

JangoFettarmor9.jpg - Human

the texture is applied over that 3D model. Its completely diferent. Human models use diferent files for heads and body. Ithorians don't. The arms are longer, the neck is longer, etc. Look here a skin example:

Boba_Fett-armortexture.jpg - Soldier clothes

As you can see the texture is flat, like real skin and is placed over polygons faces of the 3D model. Every model has its own tex map, i.e. which piece of image goes to each polygon. It seems, for what i can see, humans and ithorians couldn't match.

Even if you could create a Ithorian head and place it to a human body it wouldn't have anim, cuz we can't anim Kotor yet.

But, by all means i can be wrong, since the way Kotor engine works is not completly clear to me.:) . If there is something else i could do tell me.:)

Hey this is a first in Holowan labs history: I splitted a thread. :D

When you have technical questions, please do not post them in the modding request thread. The modding request thread is not for leghnty discussions. It is for people to post their ideas for mods they don't know how to make or don't have the time to make.

Thanks.

Thanks Xavier for the screenshots now that I've seen I understand better. I guess I'll just have to put my ithorian recruit on the back burner untill I can get gmax or something like it and play around with it. Although if you or anybody else still would like to help me out with this it would be greatly apreciated. That and I've still got selkath and gamorean and three eyes to write recruits for anyways:D
