AT-AT's crushing people?

would you want to move your car 80 kmph in a car parking spot ? I don't think so but the same answer applies here you slow down.

Oh, so you're saying that during this charge on the rebel base they chose to move only 20 km/h? When it was imperative that they reach the base in time? I think not, sorry to say so.

OK, for those not familiar with the metric system:

17-25 km/h: Average human running speed.

40 km/h: World record running speed.

100 km/h: 60 mi/h.

1mi: About 0,6km. Give or take.

So 80km/h= 48 mi/h exactly (80x.6).

80km/h? No f***ing way.

As for the technical books saying it: Don't go there. Just don't. Those books contradict each others like Bible writers on crack, and they are all approved by Lucas. Which means Lucas doesn't give a damn anymore (which are old news).

Slippery ice? It'll take a very slippery surface to topple a 200-ton AT-AT (a tank is 60 tonnes, so go figure the weight of the AT-AT). I can't picture an AT-AT slipping, I just can't.

Swoop = top speed - some can exceed six hundred kmph ...

Riiight... And if I remember correctly from those books, landspeeder altitude ceiling is, what, 500 meters  ?

Oh, and 600km/h: 360 mi/h.

About the joints freezing? Warm machinery doesn't freeze that fast. Remember, they were straight out of their drop ships, which can't have been as cold as Hoth. And if their engines were not warm by the time they left the drop ships, they would get warm soon enough.

Either way, machinery does most often not freeze. Not enough moving parts (and even the moving parts, like the axles, don't freeze. That simple).

Even though the 80 km/h figure came first, 60km/h seems more achivable by such a large vehicle in my opinion.

Remember, it's gonna take alot of shockabsorbing to deal with the very violant shaking that is going to be created by those huge legs crashing down into the ground, even on a flat surface, with that kind of rapid movement.

On thing I noticed was that in the movies :atat: :atat: 's seemed to move really slow because the kind of went into a shooting stance

This was because in that battle the :atat: 's were just being field tested obvesiouly the test worked!!!

I have found this in fo on the officail starwars site databank so don't say I am lieing!

Though 80 kph sounds pritty farfetched 60 is prob better!!

But I am used to mph so don't quote me!!!

All I know is I wish I had some animation ability. Seeing the argument and the icons of stormtroopers the posters are using made me think of two stormtroopers standing guard somewhere, arguing about the speed of AT-ATs.

TK 498 "Hey, I heard the new armored transports go 80 Kmph."

HL 578 "No way. I saw those in field testing, there is no way they go 80 Kmph."

TK 498 "Yep. I know a guy in the motor pool who used to work with a guy who is now in R&D and he said they will top out at 80 Kmph."

Maybe LA can inlcude it as one of the conversations the Stormtroopers are having in the next Jedi Knight game.
