Reskinned Head:

http://img224.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img224&image=newheads0ih.jpg

Since I absolutely hate the TSL heads, I decided to reskin the second hispanic head to make him white (not that there is anything wrong with being hispanic).

I decided to make him look like me as much as possible. I figured the five o'clock shadow would give him a more rugged, edgier look considering he is an outcast Jedi who defied the council's orders and went to war and all.

For the darkside faces, I -hate- the walking corpse nonsense, so I took a look at some of the old Tales of the Jedi Comics and other Sith Lord Examples (such as Maul for the eyes) to try and come up with something more fitting.

Jedi Armor:

This is a reskin of the Force Mask and the Mandalorian Assault Armor. I hated the coloring of both (especially the baby blue cloth of the armor).

Essentially, this armor is going to be heavy Jedi armor, descriptively said to be outfitted with Electromesh technology and Lightside Crystals (similar to the force crystal in the Splinter of the Mind's Eye book) which will have belonged to a past Jedi Weaponmaster.

My goal is to get the long power slots and the rounder force crystals to glow, similar to the electromesh armors, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Sith Armor:

This is a reskin of the Felener (sp?) armor, which was horribly colored before. I'm drawing on Tales of the Jedi references for it, hence the red darkside crystals in the suit, similar to Exar Kun's force amulet gauntlets, which is why this suit will most likely be said to belong to him and be a Sith/Darkside armor. I have alot of work to do with this one still as I'm planning to included etched runes all over it to give it an even darker appeal.

Also, as with the Jedi armor, I plan to try and make the red crystals glow in the dark, so if anyone knows how to do that, please drop me a line, thanks.

Anyways, these are my first reskins ever, so let me know what you think!

The re-skins of the Jedi Armor and the Sith Armor look outstanding, I can't wait for those ;), as for the face I think the darkside eyes look pretty cool, but IMHO the tattoos look a little wierd, to me at least, but still great job on the armors

Yeah, on extreme close up the face tattoos don't look as well, but since you only see them from a distance in game, they look much better, I think.

The black sun at least I got from the Tales of the Jedi since Exar Kun and Ulic Qel Droma had the forehead tattoos. Maybe I'll scrap the cheek ones upon release.

Hopefully I'll have this out soon. The texturing is pretty much done, but I want to figure out how do have the glow effect in the right spots before I release it. Plus I have to actually create the items themselves as these are just reskins of already existing armors.

To get the Crystals to glow you could try adding

envmaptexture CM_Bright

to the .txi of the same name as the texture and make the Alpha channel where those crystals are very dark or even black.

But I'm unsure if it will even work having 2 envmap textures at the same time, I think you may have to sacrifice one for the other. shine or glow. Its worth an attempt though.

By the way, what kind of a trick do you use for the "five o clock shadow" effect? My photoshop attempts to create believable-looking stubble fail miserably...

I'll see what I can do about the goatee, although I haven't tried creating all new hair before, so it might be good practice.

As for the stubble/five o'clock shadow effect, first I trace the edges of the section of the face which should be darkened, then copy it and make it its own image. Then I darkened it ever so slightly by lowering the Red/Green/Blue values. I then take that, copied it and put it back on the main texture.

Now that the facial hair area is darkened to give it a general shadow effect, to add the stubble I sampled the darkest part of his hair color, selected the airbrush tool and set it for a large size, a low opacity and a very low density. That'll spread the stubble dots out nicely. Then you just slowly move it over the already shadowed area, clicking repeatedly until you get the desired stubble density. Just be sure you don't hold down the button, because you don't want to cause and line streaks.

Hope that helps.

I like the heads, all though what you should remember that the first "rule" about modding is mod what you like, and make it look how you want it to look, mod for enjoyment, not work ;) basically just stick to your guns and do what you like, you don't have to change things jsut to satisfy others, always mod for yourself first ;) great job with the re-textures, face and armor, they look great.

Question- although they are heavy jedi armor, will they interfere with the use of force powers? and is there any way to change this one way or the other?

Its my understanding that armors can be modified so that they do not interfere with force powers.

As these suits are supposed to be enhanced with force crystals, I do plan on modifying them so they will not interfere with force powers. However, I may try and insert some sort of penalty to offset that, such as lowering the defense bonus somewhat, as I don't want to simply fill the game with uber items.

But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I don't know which body model you are using for these armors but if it is body model G just reuse the baseitems.2da file from the Segan Wyndth armor for TSL mod and assign the model in sequential order possibly in the 70's. If it uses a different body model I would still recomend using the baseitems from the segan wyndth armor and copy line 104 to a new line changing the name of the baseitem and the base model reference such as H or I depending on which model type your using. This will have your armor setup as a jedi armor without any real problem. Plus it has the advantage of making your mod compatible with another mod.

Darkkender,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have your mod installed now and was hoping to make mine compatablie with others, so I'll probably run with that in the end :)

I still have alot to learn about modifying the files and all though. Most everything I've done so far has been simple texture work, but I tend to learn fairly quickly once I know I'm at least pointed in the right direction.

  • 2 weeks later...

Think I'm finally done with the Male Sith Armor and the Sith Mask (tentatively titled Mantle of the Dark Lord).

It is fairly subtle but if you look closely, "Sith" runes have been etched all over the suit of armor and the mask.

Also, I'm finished with the female and male Jedi armor skins. The female Sith armor skin and the Jedi Mask are each about 3/4ths done as well.
