double saber hilt with one blade

You could do that, and to do that, I think that every other reference in the .mdl file refers to either the top or bottom blade, i.e. top, bottom, top, bottom... etc. etc., but it would look very strange, on a regular doubleblade, the PC would hold it like a spear ;), but if you use that mod it might look okay I don't know.

It'd look more strange because of the animations and sounds. Unless the mod makes it to where only 1 half of the lightsaber is used (using single blade animations) your char will still be using it like it has both sides ignited. IE you'll be attacking things with the blank side, and there will be clash sounds and everything, even though nothing is hitting ;)

meh, just go into the baseitems.2da to fix the weapon wielding to that of the standard saber. or you could copy the staff saber line to a new slot and change the weapon wielding there. then, you could create a bunch of your own custom sabers that way. ;)

I'm still confused as to why?

Don't get me wrong, to each their own and this is just as valid request as any, but if you made half the double saber 'invisible' wouldn't it just look like a long handled lightsaber?

Maybe I'm not seeing something, but I can't see the advantage? Despite anything else, it's not like the double-saber has any advantages over the lightsaber other than the initial damage in the .uti file. That's much easier to fix on a regular saber IMHO...

I don't mean to undermine your request, I'm just looking for enlightenment (like I said, maybe I'm just not seeing something)... if it's kewl maybe others would like to follow in your footsteps ;)

... like me... hehehe

Problemm: Im not really good at using any modding things, so could someone do it if it isnt so hard.

Ahhh... now I see...

Theory:

Well, you could Hex Edit the particular double-saber model so that half the blades point to an "invisible" .tga file (basically a 100% transparent .tga).

If I remember correctly, there's 8 references to a double-saber's blade colors. Pointing 4 of those 8 references to the transparent .tga should give you the effect you're looking for. The trick is, determining which of those 4 represent the particular end you're wanting to make invisible...

I'm currently at work (and on a mac) so I can't do it anytime quickly, but it's a relatively easy thing to do. Perhaps someone may beat me to it... if not, I'll see what I can do...

FYI, I know that T7 made a double-saber that has 2 different colors of blades (for KotOR). But you could at least look at those models in a Hex editor to give you an idea of which blades point to what. Then just use that as a reference when Hexing a TSL model... again, it's all theory but I believe it would work...

Hmmm... probably....

Just make sure it's your alpha channel you're making black. The only possible problem I can think of is since T7's mod is for KotOR, I'm not sure if the model would work in TSL. cchargin has said that the models are a couple of bits/bytes off though I'm not sure if it's the same for original in-game models.

Wouldn't hurt to try :D

Im allmost in the point i should just forget about it but it would be cool.

I'll test out my theory and see what I can do once i get home. You should know by either late evening or early tomorrow.. that is unless someone else would like to take a stab at it before I get home tonight... :)

Will do, but before I go through the trouble of making this a full-blown MOD. I thought you may want to take a look at this to see if you really want it ;) (screen resolution is sucky cuz' I only wanted to post one...sorry)

One Bladed, One Handed, Double-Saber flying purple people eater...sorry, couldn't resist... hehe

As of right now, it's both an upcrystals.2da & baseitems.2da edit. This way it requires a particular crystal in order to get it. This prevents ALL double-sabers from having this unique behavior, and will provide for a stand-alone mod without having to download other elements...

Let me know if this what you had in mind. Personally, because of the hilt pivot, I don't like how the saber is wielded. Until model modding is (if) available, I can't really do anything about it....

Currently, it's only available in red, and if I need to continue... I'll make some custom icons (right now they're big white squares) ...

On a side note, for all of you saber modders out there. Fred's KotOR Tool will recognize up to 255 model variations (for sabers and crystals at least). This particular saber is model #255. With a GFF editor it may go even higher...but for now.... this still beats only 99 models! w00t! :D

Here ya' go!

Download: (TSL) Long Hilt Single Blade Saber v1 (27.2kb)

Screenshot same as posted previously

Description of Mod:

=====================

Made by request for Juha Avery, this double-saber has only one blade and can be wielded in one hand. Because it's an unique baseitem, this mod won't affect any other double-sabers in the game. The crystal can be removed and placed into any saber hilt type to construct.

For other modders, this saber & crystal are using model #255.

STATS:

---------

- Upgradeable

=====================================

Usage:

1- with cheats enabled, type "~" (without quotes) and enter:

giveitem ob_dblsbr (Single Bladed Double Saber)

giveitem ob_sbrcrstl (Single Bladed Double Saber Crystal)

2- Press "ENTER"

**- because this mod was made per request in a relatively short time, this item is only available via cheat code.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note, because this was made in a short time (and initially just as a request), compatibility issues may occur. I used my own existing .2da's for brevity.

Though upcrystals.2da & baseitems.2da files are included, I've also included extensive instructions on how to make this compatible with other mods. They're very simple adjustments, and following these may "primer" you for future mod releases when making things compatible will be a necessity. It's better to start practicing now ;)

This mod won't be released on pcgamemods, but may eventually wind up on my website.

ENJOY!

Hmm, not to be picky, but when they figure out how to do models, you should do a 1.1 ver on it so you can change the hand placement (higher up on the hilt like Darth Maul did... he had 1 hand high up and another further down, he kinda used the long hilt as a 'lever').

Yeah, that's why I wanted to make absolute sure if I was to proceed with this because of where the pivot is:

But hey, as long as Juha didn't mind (whom this was made for originally) who was I to say "nope" ;)

When (if) we can edit models, I may 're-visit' this idea for a longer hilt standard saber. For now, consider this a "settle for" mod... hehe :)
