What is up with Cyan crystal - and is it fixable?

Can't find anything relevant here or on Obsidian forums, but here goes.

The Cyan color crystal is somehow bugged. If it is put into a sabre, and the sabre is turned on, it for some reason stays on indefinitely - until the weapon is fluourished or put away. I haven't seen that happen with any other color crystal.

Has anyone come across a crystal property that governs the length of time that a sabre is allowed to "idle"? I can't seem to find anything about Cyan crystal I can tweak, but if you know of a solution, it would be appreciated.

Well, you can open up another mdl file in a hex editor, for example, w_lghtsbr_001.mdl (I think that's what the file is in TSL, I could be wrong.). That's the blue lightsaber I believe. If you search in the hex for w_lsabreblue01 (Again a guess for the file name, that was KOTOR I's) and change it to w_lsabrecyan01 (A guess) and save the file to override, you can then rename it to w_lghtsbr_00x (insert Modelvariation for Cyan saber) and do the same for the w_lghtsbr_001.mdx file, it should fix the problem.

Yeah it is an easy fix but it is still annoying at times though.

If you plan on fixing it via .mdl hex editing, don't use the w_lghtsbr_001.mdl file as the lines aren't very easy to... discern and this can cause mix ups, use w_lgthsbr_003.mdl or _002.mdl, because 002 and 003 have a different number of characters for teh saber blade texture, and you don't want to add or subtract from the number of characters, in short it equals .... bad.

So far I have not had problems renaming the model 001 variant in my hex editor. Of course I use a find replace feature which automatically adjusts the hex character lengths internally without any problems.

OK, odd.

Someone whose name I forgot posted a fixed sabre model earlier, I downloaded it and it worked just fine (my Handmaiden thanks you). Now the post with the link is gone, not sure why.

Again, thanks - whoever you are. Sorry I forgot your name.

the mod you are talking about was done by GSCCC. However that fixed lightsaber had nothing to do with the glitch you are refering too.

GSCCC has this mod at his site still. Oh and threads like the one you are refering to don't vanish. They just require a little effort to scroll down through the threads on the boards.

You misunderstand (and kindly avoid patronizing remarks towards me in the future). GSCCC posted a link to the fixed sabre in this thread, but the post is gone now. That's why I think it's rather odd. I already downloaded his mod and, among other things wrong with the cyan sabre, it also fixed the "permanently on" issue.

Again, thanks go out to GSCCC now that his name is known.

Actually that isn't odd at all, people sometimes delete their posts, we all have that option, also whole threads can disappear without a trace if the threads creator deletes their first post. Most likely something like this is what happed here.

IMHO I don't really see anything Darkkender posted to you as patronizing...

The intention was not to sound patronizing. However i did a search using GSCCC as my key word. I found the following thread. I hope this helps.

Guilty as charged. I deleted my earlier post since the file only contained a fixed model for the standard saber. So I figured someone else would probably offer a more complete solution including the short and double-bladed sabers as well (if they are broken too, haven't used them with a Cyan crystal).

Sorry about the confusion that created.

  • 2 months later...

Does anyone of you have a mod fix for the cyan crystal bug or is there another fix for it somewhere? Cause I can't download the file from gsccc's homepage as it doesn't seem to exist any longer and this damn bug really starts to annoy me...

Maybe they'll fix it in the next patch, if it ever comes out. I guess they said it will be out "in a few days" like a month ago.

Yea, this has happened to me many times, with any colour, i wouldn't call it a bug, KotOR I did exactly the same thing, its nothing major, just as you said, Flourish or battle someone, it happens once in a blue moon to me, and when it does i have a laugh, just watching the blades 'slice' his head ;)

I personally would NOT call it a bug, just a qerky thing. it doesnt mess with anything other than the aesthetics (for those of you not sure on the word i used it just means how it looks) of the game.

Well it was Smilodon that bumped it, and it just tells you wat i know, i keep KotOR II Updated so i probably never gave it chance to be found as a bug. ;)

Yea, it was me who bumped this thread. Atm the cyan lightsaber is always activated once you enter a new area, and I know that this effect can be undone once you flourish your saber, but I wanted to ask if there is a fix via mod because that flourishing gets annoying after a while and it was not addressed by the 1.0b patch, I'm running the game in the newest version ;)

I searched the holowan here and found 2 links to some user mods that should fix this problem, but the files aren't available anymore, so I wanted to know if there were other mods or fixes for this crappy thing °_^

I know he bumped it, but you were replying to the thread starter. :D
