Ever wonder why there's no vibroblades/swords in the star wars movies?

The impression I got, was that swords were used during those days because blasters were ineffective against energy sheilds, so there was a need for melee weapons. I assume that blaster technology improved more quickly then sheild technology, and swords were rendered obsolete again.

They don't show up in the movies because they are Expanded Universe sh*t that have ruined the whole Star Wars.

But they do in various places, and so existed long before the EU.

gaffi stick

vibro-axe (multiple places)

Geonosian force pike

Royal Guard force pike

whatever the Magna Guards weapons will be called

Is it so hard to believe that melee weapons have a place in the Star Wars universe? Or are you just looking for any excuse, factual based or not, to rag on the EU?
