Grifman
Ok, in the thread this was brought up, I was told not to derail the thread, so I started my own on this topic So I hope I am abidding by the rules. In the original thread here: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=146350 this was posted by a mod: Third, before you continue with your mod project, especially if you intend to release it, I strongly suggest you read The Forum Rules, Especially Rule 14, as porting resources from KOTOR to TSL is quite verboten here, because it is illegal. (Emphasis mine). My post questioning this assertion of illegality was commented out and this response put in it's place: A rule is a rule. We don't have any problems with LA and we want to keep it that way. We don't want to see this kind of mod here. //END. Sorry, but I think the mod was confused. You can't see it in my post, but I didn't question the rule. That's fine by me - if that is the rule, it's the rule and I won't argue it against the rule. This board has every right to assert it's own rules. I just questioned the assertion that it is "illegal". That seemed to be a bit of an overstatement and an exaggeration to me, so I was asking if it indeed is illegal. Is there a problem with asking this question here? If so, I won't raise it again, but don't just say it's the rule because that's not the question. The question is whether it's illegal. Thanks. Mav
It is indeed illegal to port any files from K1 to TSL, plain an simple. I for one vote for a....
shosey
the content from Kotor1 is copyrighted by Bioware and the content from Kotor2 is copyrighted by Obsidian. so, you are most likely breaking copyright laws by porting kotor1 content to kotor 2. I too vote for a

Grifman
Isn't the game copyrighted by LucasArts? After all they own the Star Wars license, not Bioware or Obsidian. They merely produced the games for LucasArts. Actually, in looking at the software license, it says that LucasArts has the copyright, not Bioware or Obisidian. Shimaon
I personally don't see how it's illegal if you own both games and if you don't release the mod... But whatever.

That may be the case however Bioware and Obsidian still have legal rights to the products in which they released. Also the Model format is the biggest issue as it different in K2 from K1. Untill the moderators and are provided information to the contrary it "MUST" be assumed that it is illegal. Since modding is not officially supported by either Bioware, Obsidian, or Lucasarts it makes everything we discuss here very Gray making it wiser to err on the side of caution. Darth333
I really don't feel like giving legal opinions when I leave work so in short, it is illegal + we have a forum rule against this type of mod. Do not bring up this issue again. (And btw, your post was also deleted because it was bringing a thread off-topic.) ...and as agreed unanimoulsly: :lock: :lock: :lock: :lock: ******************The End******************
