[WIP] That's how Exile female general should look like :)

I'm a newbie modder and I'm learning by watching the pros here, so please, bear with me...sorry if I'm asking a dumb question.

I'm using Su27's Mira's jacket for PCs mod as my base, and I want to make the jacket upgradeable. I use KoTOR tool to edit the UTI file to do this, and it seems to work. But when I go into the game to test it, the jacket is not upgradeable. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can anybody help me?

And a plea--somebody please turn the forum search feature back on! I'm sure that my questions have been asked and answered before, but I can't find anything because the search feature is disabled. Think of the time you will save if n00bs like myself can do their own research.

Are you using a savegame where the jacket has already been spawned? TSL's & KotOR's savegame data pretty much keeps data intact for items as they were first spawned.

Try going back into the game and spawning a new jacket (cheat code) and see if that particular jacket is upgradeable... :)

There has also been problems with the uti editor not actually saving the changes made in there. You may want to consider using a regular gff editor to make the change as within that you can actually change the number variable for an upgradeable item.

This post came up just as I was getting ready to reply to Chainz.2da and tell him that I couldn't get the jacket to be upgradeable no matter what I did. I'm glad to know that I'm not a complete idiot!

But I'm still a mostly-complete idiot--say 75% or so. Is there a way to force KoTOR Tool to make the changes? Or could someone tell me what a gff editor is and where can I find one?

Unfortunately we can't force kotor tool to bypass it bug. Fred has been working on this though. In the mean time if you would like a copy of NWNeditor send me a PM and I'll get you a copy.

NWNeditor is a combination gff and erf editor.

Thanks for the editor, Darkkender! :)

However, I still can't get the jacket to be upgradeable. :( I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong...is there a "making items upgradeable" tutorial someplace? I think I need to start over.

In the new format for TSL there is an entry in the uti files for UpgradeLevel. In Kotor tool click on the name of the uti file you want to extract and use the extract file feature. Do not open the file and then save as this will convert the the upgradelevel to "0".

So for yourself extract a light armor uti for the base of your jacket.(you could use any uti that may have a upgrade level) When I choose a uti to extract I look for items with a high variable number like 12 or more. The reason is they already are upgradeable. Then I just change all of the various settings to meet my needs within the uti file.

Actually you don't even need to start with an upgradeable item, all you need is a handy GFF editor.

I use Roboius' Modified Bioware GFF Editor .

To start open the items .uti file, then open the main tree, and if your starting item isn't upgradeable right click on the fist line and select "Add [byte]". This will place a new line on the bottom of the tree, select it and on the right you'll notice the block "Field ID" in that block type "UpgradeLevel" (without quotes) then in the big block, right below, type in the level by typing 1,2,3,or4 and then clicking anywhere to the left to set what you typed.

RedHawke had posted what levels did what but I can't find the post or remember what they were, I know the robes in his Exile Item pack are set to 2.

They're here in the .2da Editing Tutorials Section (up top)..

I know I'm a little late in the discussion(cut off from internet during spring break vacation) but I personally like the way the screenshot at the beginning of the thread looks for caucasian PCs. Would it be possible to create a skin for the female PC with the belly button tattoo along with the skin without it for those who dislike it? Just wondering.

Peace.

Actually it is possible. Infact I've gotten permission to make use of both with my new selectable PC's mod I've been working on. I'm hoping to have it out by this weekend.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads-up, and am eagerly awaiting the mod(s).
