As if TSL/KotOR needs more of these :p

 

My work so far. I'm trying to get it in game. I'm struggling with gmax right now. :(

Edit: Oh. I'd like to point out that the back of the saber isn't missing, it's just the lighting I have on it.

hmmm how many poly's is the hilt right now?

 

If it's not too high you could perhaps add a little more detail to the shaft and/or bottom of the hilt, a couple buttons or switches, the emitter looks very good right now, the buttons and switches are jsut my style... lol ;) very well done as it is though

Current plan is to make most of the "detail" in texture format. But I've added a button and a belt mushroom. I'll probably post more when I awake, for now sleeeeep.

This saber looks very nice :)

 

And to me you can never have enough variety in choice of sabers. Jedi don't :) Sabers and robes are too me the two things that identify a jedi :) I could take a hundred of these. This saber looks really good way to go man!!!

Sorry guys for lack of updates. I'm seriously immersed in school projects like none other. In actuality, I made this model to learn modelling techniques for my game programming class.

 

Side note: If/when I decide to get this in game, do I have to use gmax? I'm quite fond of Truespace and I've used 3D Studio Max and it scared me away.

Pretty imrpessive! And really cool!

The latter model was too simple, this little modifications you did made the saber really wicked(in a good way, of course, hehe)!

Any thought on a color scheme yet for the skin? I can see a ton of possibilities, especially with the extra length-wise ridges you've placed.

I thinking of making the raised faces on the grip part black and doing a simple shiny metal skin. I'll play around.

 

I'm gonna read a lot of tuts on how to do metals/textures. I'm pretty impressed on the metals done on previous sabers especially the ones in the lightsaber pack.

Just for the record, I think you meant to say "the former model".

Ok. As I looked at the model more and more. I grew dissatisfied with it. Namely the means of creating it wasn't very good. I had three seperate objects that were combined into one. I was getting all sorts of geometry problems. When the model trangulated I had weird triangles.

 

Sooo. I redid it! I like this one. What do you all think?

As much as I liked the first from the screenshot, I have to say I think this one is even better. I like the emmitter part of it especially.

Soon the fun part will begin, getting this into TSL. I'm pretty happy with the mesh. I don't believe I'll change that a lot. Now it's just getting better textures.

 

Edit: Not bad for a beginner, eh? :p
