JediGandalf Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 As if TSL/KotOR needs more of these My work so far. I'm trying to get it in game. I'm struggling with gmax right now. Comments? Suggestions? Edit: Oh. I'd like to point out that the back of the saber isn't missing, it's just the lighting I have on it.
Mav Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 hmmm how many poly's is the hilt right now? If it's not too high you could perhaps add a little more detail to the shaft and/or bottom of the hilt, a couple buttons or switches, the emitter looks very good right now, the buttons and switches are jsut my style... lol very well done as it is though
Mav Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Forgive my lack of notice before and let me be the first to welcome you to the forums and you even brought a new toy with you
JediGandalf Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 Thank you Current plan is to make most of the "detail" in texture format. But I've added a button and a belt mushroom. I'll probably post more when I awake, for now sleeeeep.
General Kenobi Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 This saber looks very nice And to me you can never have enough variety in choice of sabers. Jedi don't Sabers and robes are too me the two things that identify a jedi I could take a hundred of these. This saber looks really good way to go man!!! Looking forward to downloading this DM
Khaliban Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 You could make the lower portion resemble Yoda's lightsaber. It would maintain the symmetry.
JediGandalf Posted April 7, 2005 Author Posted April 7, 2005 Sorry guys for lack of updates. I'm seriously immersed in school projects like none other. In actuality, I made this model to learn modelling techniques for my game programming class. Side note: If/when I decide to get this in game, do I have to use gmax? I'm quite fond of Truespace and I've used 3D Studio Max and it scared me away.
Khaliban Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 A model like that would be easy to make in gmax. You're just modifying basic shapes. It's much less scary than Studio Max.
Axell Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Pretty imrpessive! And really cool! The latter model was too simple, this little modifications you did made the saber really wicked(in a good way, of course, hehe)!
ChAiNz.2da Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Very nice! Any thought on a color scheme yet for the skin? I can see a ton of possibilities, especially with the extra length-wise ridges you've placed. Nice touch!
JediGandalf Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 I thinking of making the raised faces on the grip part black and doing a simple shiny metal skin. I'll play around. I'm gonna read a lot of tuts on how to do metals/textures. I'm pretty impressed on the metals done on previous sabers especially the ones in the lightsaber pack. Thank you all for the comments. It helps out those new to modeling.

On topic: Looks good, keep up the enthusiasm.
Axell Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Ooops! Thanks for the correction! *Writes down on one of his paper notes: Don't try to post on a Forum just after you woke up. Eat your brekfast and get a good shower first, as you (almost) always do.*
Jeff Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 It's looking good! I think once you add some color to the raised parts it will look excellent.
JediGandalf Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 The color scheme that I'm thinking. I don't like it. Not the color scheme, the looks of the textures.
JediGandalf Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 Ok. As I looked at the model more and more. I grew dissatisfied with it. Namely the means of creating it wasn't very good. I had three seperate objects that were combined into one. I was getting all sorts of geometry problems. When the model trangulated I had weird triangles. Sooo. I redid it! I like this one. What do you all think?
Jeff Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 As much as I liked the first from the screenshot, I have to say I think this one is even better. I like the emmitter part of it especially.
JediGandalf Posted April 10, 2005 Author Posted April 10, 2005 And more Soon the fun part will begin, getting this into TSL. I'm pretty happy with the mesh. I don't believe I'll change that a lot. Now it's just getting better textures. Edit: Not bad for a beginner, eh?
ChAiNz.2da Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Originally posted by JediGandalf Edit: Not bad for a beginner, eh? Not bad for a PRO... Very sleek & stylish.. great job man!
Shadow Blaze Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Nice! I like it. Hopefully you won't go through any problems in-game with it.
Keiko Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 :drop2: WOW! This is awesome man! Thinkin about adding buttons?
General Kenobi Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 This saber hilt looks great. Your work looks familiar not sure from where though. Great job can't wait to download it.
