Didn't Sidius seem a little too weak?

That's a mystery that hasn't yet been cleared up (unless it's explained in some non-movie material, since I really haven't dived into those yet).

Possibilities:

1) Palpatine always looked like a crone/demon. He just used a "disguise" to appear like a normally aging old man for everyone else's benefit.

- But then the question is "why" did he lose the disguise permanently? Why didn't he regain it, say for the benefit of the Senate?

2) Force Lightning of that magnitude makes you age/deform rapidly. His lighting appeared to bounce off of Windu's saber and hit him, causing him to age.

- But then why doesn't Windu himself appear to age when hit. Why doesn't Yoda age/deform when hit? Etc.

3) The "crone/demon" look is the disguise. He gave it to himself to gain sympathy from the Senate and Anakin.

- But the question is, why did he do it just when he got hit with his own lightning? The movie makes it appear that the lighting itself is what causes it, yet lightning only has this affect on Palpatine.

There might be others. I honestly don't know which one Lucas intended, but maybe that will be cleared up. Maybe when the DVD comes out he'll put it on the audio commentary if people are still confused.

In Ep 2 Dooku hurles lighting at Kenobi but by putting up his blade, it absorbs the bolts. I think that when he was trying to kill Mace, he was using up so much of his powers that it started draining his life force to increase his lighting force.

That could be very, very, very true.....But i don't think it was draining his life force to increase his lighting force.I think he was using so much energy till he was almost empty of energy in his body and so he becomes cripled...I could be wrong.

yoda, over his many years alive, has apparently learned how absorb force lightning and send it back OR use it to re-charge HIS force powers.

and lightsabers are pure energy blades so i can see how the would be able to absorb force lightning and if not the jedi in said statment may have a force resistance field around them
