Do we die to live or do we live to die?

You sound, in the words of Allen Ginsberg, like a "lackey of the right-wing establishment" in that beliefs do not require explanation :animelol:. As for an omnipotent, all-knowing god, I feel that people like to separate good and evil to please and satify their selfish little minds, which take pleasure in the fact that there is a force of good in the world, who is stronger than the inevitable force of evil in it. So in effect, why can't 'God' be evil as well, and yet be good in the world as well? In an exerpt from my favorite story of all time, where there is one, all-powerful leader, who turns out to be 'God', the leader takes pleasure in saving citizens, but only for the purpose of manipulating and killing them, and that version of 'God' is the enigma that most won't even consider. But I don't believe in 'God', so he does not exist in my zillionth of reality... And that's my cent (I'm cheap :D)

***Edit***

[5-yr-old whining]But most Western religions have a larger expanse of crap (no offense) to make fun of and debunk though... [/5-yr-old whining]

And you sound like a typically sneering atheist prig, as I would say, smug in your belief that we are all a bunch of thick, misguided brainless idiots, and you aren't.

Anyway, on-topic, I think that re-incarnation does not preclude the creation of new souls. After all, you could have younger souls which have re-incarnated less times....How they were created is anybody's guess. Maybe, there is the same number of souls waiting for corporeal forms, and since there were in the past only 1 billion corporeal forms, there were only 1 billion souls in the corporeal world.....maybe.

LOL - I at least wish to post .... this surely is interesting :)

I also tend to be pretty materialistic/science-focused, so I do not believe there is a god and/or reincarnation of any kind.

This is as far as the original topic goes, but I would also like to comment one other opinion voiced in this discussion (forgive me, mods ;) )

That means that we are living for nothing, there is no meaning for a life like the one you have mentioned.

This is a pretty common question :) ("What is the meaning of life?") I agree that no meaning of life in the sense of a purpose can exist if you do not accept being created by a sentient entity, simply because the term "meaning" or "porpuse" includes the involvement of a sentient being.

However not being created for a purpose but by mere "fate" or "coincidence" does IMHO not lead to the conclusions many ppl. tend to jump to, like "If there is no meaning in life I can/should harm others any way I want"

Not being created for a purpose simply gives yourself the decision what you should do, not decides for you. Even the most rational egoist (with a limited mind,i.e. who is not all-knowing) would IMO still act altruistic (to a degree (about which I am not sure though ;) )), simply because egoistic deeds tend to backfire....

My reason (the philosophical/rational, not the emotional one) for acting altruistic is that it is more pleasant and thereby efficient for the whole community and mostly even for yourself.

However, you should keep in mind that this "acting altruistic" is not necessarily the commonly understood (& misunderstood :( ) way (e.g. not resisting anyone as it is recommended in the Bible (I do not know the exact translation :( ;I hope you know which part I mean)) but IMO more a situation-specific calculation of use vs. harm of an action taken

Being a Hindu, I was raised to believe that incarnation is real. I still do, actually. Life and Death are reciprocals of each other. It's a bit like Yin and Yang. Life follows Death and Death Follows Life. These two are bound together by a soul and as along as there is balance, Life and Death will revolve around it.

Once you die, your memory is destroyed and you are reborn as someone. A new life, a new world. You cannot tell if you had a life before your death, because you just didn't. Your memory now and your memory then are two completely different things. A body and a soul, both are needed for each other. A body is lifeless without a soul and a mind is dead without a body.

Eventually, all that matters is to strive your best in your current life, so that people will respect you. They will know you as some one who made his life count.

My 2 cents.

Life and death,

That's all that is left,

And the vultures dive to intercept,

And friendship rolls on to it's side

And you wait for it to die...

I hope this was some sort of humor?

If it isn't then this makes me fear for the state of education in the world... :roleyess:

9x7=63 not 42! :eyeraise:

Its from Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.

I was raised to believe that incarnation

I don't know much about hinduism, but don't you mean reincarnation? No offence to anyone, but I guess we'll never know what happens.
