Looking for a DVD burner

Recommended Posts

I know there's my other thread, but since this is a different thing, well, I went for it.

It's not only because of recent problems from my HD, I also have a LOT of crap stored on it. By that, I mean enough to almost use all the space of my 100 Gb secondary HD.

Well, I finally decided to go look for a good DVD burner.

I was wondering what DVD burner you guys are using. If it's good, if it has problem, etc.

I'll check the prices myself :)

Thank you :)

I assume you mean a dvd burner, and not a dvd/cd-r burner?

If I am right, then this looks like something you might be interested in. I don't suggest buying it from that site, but the model looks pretty good and should be what you're looking for. And I don't know what your price range is. I'm sure you could find one cheaper than this, but samsung is pretty reliable when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Absolutely, without a doubt, block out all other suggestions and get a Lite-On DVD burner Model No: SOHW - 1693S

Top of the line, rock solid and they only cost ~70-80 bucks.

It's the only one I'd even bother looking at if I was putting a system together right now.

You will thank me. Yub you will. :ewok:

I've always been leery of Lite-On. I know that I have read a bunch of good reviews, but I overwhelmingly hear about how noisy they are. And, unless I am thoroughly mistaken, they are made by JVC. I had a JVC CD player in my car once that only lasted about a year before literally going up in flames. My stepson had to rip it out of the dash to keep from melting it. Needless to say, I am a bit concerned about them.

I don't have a DVD burner, but I do have a LG CD-RW drive that I swear by and would recommend to others. I also have an AOpen DVD drive (not burner, just player) that I wish I could send back. Plays fine, but you have to stick a paperclip in the reset hole just to get it to eject a disk. DO NOT BUY AOPEN!

Right now NEC has been getting rock solid reviews at NewEgg.com. And they are less expensive than the Lite-On drives.

I can't sugest a specific model or brand but i can tell you what to look for first I think there is six or nine different formats for dvd's so you will want one that supports all of them to start with second which is a do not do this is go to some place like bestbuy for advice, third make sure it can use r+ and r- dvds also and the warrenty matters since i don't have one that is all the infromation I can think of if I were looking for a dvd-rw
