Star Wars Tv Series: Thoughts?

this was just going to be a post in the "do you think there will be more movies thread" but i thought it started to go a little off topic, so i gave it its own thread instead

i've heard some rumors about the new shows, for example that mark hammil might be making guest appearances, or that kevin smith (clerks/mallrats and such) might be involved. the animated one i think is going to be based on the 5/12 minute clone wars shorts and take place in that time period and the live action one will take place between epIII and epIV.

i'll get the ball rolling with my opinion about the new live action show. now the the empire is in power i'd like to see something more in the line of the OT, and with less cgi. lets go back to puppets and guys in suits for the aliens. story wise i hope its less politics and more like "lone jedi against the galaxy" kind of feel. with the jedi order dead or in hiding, hopefull any jedi on the show won't be quite so uptight. he'd have to keep his profile low, only using the force or his lightsaber in really dire situations, no longer being able to rely on them as much, he'd have to find more creative wasy out of problems. i wonder if there will even be jedi? i hope there is like one, maybe two, tops. and a wookiee. you gotta have a wookiee :wookiee: but more than all that stuff i want to see the beginnings of the rebellion. i don't want it to focus to much on jedi (like the PT does) but i dont want them to forget jedi entirely, cause that would be kinda boring. as for a villian, it needs to be someone besides vader. vader should make appearances, but he should be more in the background of things.

so you guys can go ahead and run with that, i'd love to hear other peoples opinions/theories of the both of the new shows planned, and of course if anyone has any actual information, post that too!

While there are tons of possibilities for a show based on the time between ROTS and ANH, I tend to think that it would be an inferior show. I say this because we all "know" what happened and what is going to happen. Any new developments would have to be minimal as to not fool with the timeline in the movies. I am just afraid that it will become another Highlander if this is what the series focuses on.

Personally, I would like to see what happens after ROTJ. That way, Mark Hamill could make guest appearances as an aged Jedi Master Skywalker. Not to mention that there could be galaxy shattering events portrayed without the worry of going "out of bounds" where the movies are concerned (that was a fatal flaw of Highlander IMHO).

I agree, I also wouldn't mind a show based on the the Old Republic as well. Kotor timeline. That shouldn't have much of an effect on the GL's episodes. I would just hope that they would spend a big enough budget for it to look good, and for it to be well written. Mandalorian wars and such.

^^^^

If the TV show is pushed back to 2008, then when is the 3D version of Star Wars gonna be released?

I heard they plan to start the animation process before the end of this year so it'll proberly be anything between 6 and 24 mouths after that depending on the quality of the animation it could be alot longer.

I may be the only one, but I don't think they should make a Star Wars show. Maybe the computer animated one would be ok, but live action based on sci-fi/ space fantasy movies tend to be really cheesy. Plus if Star Wars had a show we would be no better than the Trekies (no offence to any Trekies that might be reading this *dorks*) No, not really. But really people, do we want them to risk it? I, for one, say no.

There's nothing wrong with Star Trek!

i confess that i too am star trek fan, but to the same degree that i am a star wars fan.

and i have pretty high hopes for the live action show, i'm hoping the fact that its not a movie will bring star wars away from all the fancy special effects and computer animation that was used in the prequels and back to what star wars is really about: guys in uncomfortable hot suits. or at least i hope they are planning on leaving the cgi behind, i think it was way overused in the prequels. the prequels were like watching a really shiny version of "who framed roger rabbit"

as for the animated show, computer animation looks good in video games, and to a lesser extent movies, but i've never really seen a computer animated show that i liked. my biggest fear is that this computer animated show will look like jimmy neutron with lightsabers.

and continuing with my trend of posting links to things that sort of relate to the topic at hand i give you Penny-Arcade's take on the Star Wars show
