RoxStar Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 Is it just me or does the unreal 3 Engine produce odd looking character models? Don't get me wrong the landscapes are beautiful (pic). I just think that the character models seem to glow a lot more than, well, they should be. (Example) Is it just me, or does that alien/monster/whatever seem to be emitting his own light source? The same goes for this Eagle. But then sometimes, the lighting on the models looks great. Take this shot of some thing walking along a hall thats light comes from a stained glass window. Apart from the large stained glass tiles, the lighitng looks great! But, the character models tend to look like all parts of their body (hats, armor, skin) look like they've all been spawned from the same material. Especially the skin, it looks like the cheeks are incapable of movement, or are made of stone. But those are just my thoughts, so feel free to criticize me. It just seems that the models slep twith nails as infants.
acdcfanbill Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 well, many new game engines look to me like things are becoming too shiny, as for this case tho, in some of the shots, looks to me like they stuck a lightsource on the model so you could see it? because in the first example, only the models top half is lit up.
TiE23 Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 Its over exagerated to show off what its technilogically capible of is all. Its just showing how it can make bloom and stuff.
Mike Windu Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 sleeps drinks eats nails erm...? But yeah, he is rather bright Maybe he is an orc priest? *rimshot*

Sabretooth Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Maybe that weirdo is made of super-shine metal. The light source thing can be both cool and bad. You see, light would look great in Skaarj eyes. It will give them a more terrible and realistic feel. Similarly, they would be useful in all those teeny-weeny blinking spots in robots and cybernetics. Now for the bad part: Own light source will not only give away snipers and campers, it will look just plain awful.

Sabretooth Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Green camo isn't known to shine in light....... Horned aliens aren't known to attack insane humans either.
El Sitherino Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Horned aliens aren't known to attack insane humans either. You don't know that. Darth Maul's a horned alien and he attacked 2 humans, true they weren't insane, but they were two humans none the less.
Prime Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 I just think that the character models seem to glow a lot more than, well, they should be.Perhaps they all just got laid?
RoxStar Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 Perhaps they all just got laid? Even those brunak (?) Things?
