Well, after going off on a bit of a rant in the transporter 2 thread about how Luc Besson has lost it recently I must admit I really enjoyed Unleashed.

It seemed to take a dash of dialogue from Lock Stock (or maybe even Long Good Friday), a touch of the plot from Oldboy and a good dose of good old AWOL to boot. The fight scenes were better than any of Jet Li's US films, (and definately AWOL - if not as good as the iconic corridor scene in Oldboy).

It was nice to see Jet get to actually ACT for once, and Bob Hoskins always kicks butt. The only thing i wasnt so keen on was the Morgan Freeman role... he really needs to start playing some characters OTHER than the wise, kind old father figure dispensing advice that he has played in everything from Shawshank to Million Dollar baby... but then i guess only he could have pulled it off without making it seem completely cheesy.

The only other problem was the fact that the plot was so damn predictable... within the first 5 minutes you could plot out the entire path of the film. But it was definately enjoyable.

Just don't go in expecting a balls-out Romeo-must-die-style action movie.. apart from the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes there isn't really any action at all.

Indeed.

That's not the only role he's ever played, watch his earlier movies. He plays a hell of a pimp in Street Smart. Hell even in Dreamcatcher he didn't play one of the wise old father figures, he was a bad guy.

but then i guess only he could have pulled it off without making it seem completely cheesy.

Well the general goal of casting is getting an actor that can do the part.

Pretty much any "fight" movie has a predictable plot. Plus it's not exactly meant to be a mind boggling thriller.
