lukeiamyourdad
I was at college the other day at my statistical analysis class. We were going to work on Macs with statistical tools. The teacher came in. She said since it was our first class at the Mac lab, we would wait five minutes in case anyone is late because they couldn't find the place. She said:"Click on the E icon on your toolbar". Of course, you can guess it was the evil Internet Explorer E. My eyes saw only red as I witness those kids, unleashing its evil on the poor Macs. Safari was there, they even had Firefox! But no. I was the only one to click on Firefox, everyone else clicked on IE. My skin turned green. I wanted to rip my shirt off and yell out:"Viet smash! Viet crash puny humans!" Then the teacher said:"Alright, let's start the class." I calmed down as people closed their IE window of doom. It was over...until she said to open IE again to send our labs via WebCT...
El Sitherino
Opinions are wonderful. What do you consider the best browser, if not FF? Mozilla Suite and Opera. There were also several small open source browsers that were constantly updated each day, but they're long dead and I've since forgotten their names. FireFox does show promise though, Deer Park is showing a lot of improvement. until she said to open IE again to send our labs via WebCT... That's when you yell out "CLICK FIREFOX/SAFARI!" then proceed to throw objects at people. I'd recommend use of Camino on OSX though, it's firefox, but specifically done up for OSX. Though since Tiger, Safari is the best to use.
Aash Li
OPERA?? Are you kidding me? That browser sucked! the last version they had out that I tried (version 7 I think), crashed atleast twice a day. Im not exaggerrating! Sure it had tabbed browsing, and some other neat ideas in it, but who wants to pay 40$ or whatever their price is for a browser, when youve got other browser choices that are free? Oh, and last I knew, Safari had problems with Adobes digital rights or whatever it is. Not saying its a bad browser, just that that was a problem I had read on a site that used pdf's. Remind me how free = best browser requirement. I thought this was based on technical facts rather than "omg liek itz freez!" Opera ran fine on my computer, and it was secure. Has good support. Only thing is I dislike the whole pay thing, but that doesn't make it suck, just discourages use.
lukeiamyourdad
The free version has a tiny banner. Not the end of the world. And Opera did crash a lot for me...
Aash Li
Hmmm... you seem to be mixing my thoughts to gether. I didnt say it sucked because you had to pay for it to get rid of the banner ads (dont think so anyway), just that it sucked because it kept crashing. And no I wasnt using a hacked version of the browser. Just incase someone thinks of that. Banner ads and shareware detract from whatever makes its a better browser. And yes, free does equal better (in some cases). I believe Opera was/is the only shareware browser. I dont know though, as I havent found the need to go look for something "better" than FF, since Im quite happy with its non-crashing-ness. ^_^

Vladimir-Vlada
Um... No thanks. I use Internet Explorer. Besides. I prefer regularity over luxury (not that Fire Fox has to be paid to be used, though IMO).
lukeiamyourdad
Regularity? Conformism to the majority actually, since IE is still used by over 90% of all web users. Have some fun cleaning your computer from those spywares!

I am like a dog: I use what I have been given, I don't look for more. Have some fun cleaning your computer from those spywares! Yeah, well... There isn't any spyware here Columbus! And even if there is, they can Kiss my a$$ because I don't have a credit card or a bank account. I only have problem with Adware. But what the heck! Vladimir-Vlada
^^^^ Okay. I am now going to stop posting on this thread since I believe that I am going to recieve the same responce from Revan, stingerhs, Chainz, snafu, Aash Li and so on and so on. Aash Li
Vlada the drama queen. Sounds more like laziness to me. So if we feed you nothing but gruel and give you gray overalls, and give you a 5x10 storage space to sleep in, with maybe a cot, does this mean you will be content with it? Vlada just means that he likes regularity of spyware, adware, spam and banners that you get in IE, over the luxury of not having any of them in FF. :D

Yes. We used to live that way (my family and the people of my country). Still holding me by the throath with that "regularity"? come to the light young grasshopper <dominate mind> you shall switch ot FireFox</dominate mind> I am switched to Outlook. lukeiamyourdad
Yes. We used to live that way (my family and the people of my country). So now that you can make your life better, you're holding it back because? When I was born we were dead poor. Hell, during the most part of my childhood I was poor. I'm still poor damn it. Doesn't mean I wish or have to stay poor if I can get out of it. I am switched to Outlook. [/meditation] I like it, it's just simple and stupid, like me. What does Outlook have to do with anything? RevanA4
So something like 89.5% still use IE. O_o so now your saying only .5% use the rest of the browsers *finds this hard to believe*
lukeiamyourdad
How is it hard to believe? Most of the other browsers are not very popular. Only Firefox managed to stand out. Remember that .5% can be millions of users.

lukeskywalker1
Man, this thread exploded. Well, I don't think a lot of people know what FireFox is. In fact, I knew for years, but was just too lazy to switch. IE was good enough... I mean, it did the job. But now I love to "middle click" links... the tabbed stuff is great. BTW, I use Star Downloader with FlashGot. One thing I have noticed, with sites like IGN, FF doesn't work well. It will say at the bottom "reading scripts" or something dumb, then I wait... and wait... but if I hit the refresh button, everything instantly gets drawn... but of course, then it reloads the page which wastes my time. Its like this with other sites, but since IGN is popular I figured someone has to have the same problem and can help me out. Then others sites, such as 1up don't even load at all. lukeskywalker1
Nah, just too lazy to DL and install. I mean, I have FireFox, I finally Downloaded it sometime during the summer. But I knew of it for over a year, and didn't bother. And yes, I clicked a link in someones SIG.
