toms
I'm not from Oz, but i went there a few years back. Blue mountains is East Coast Near Sydney right? When i was there I took a month to go up the east coast from sydney to cairnes. On one of those backpacker buses. A month wasn't really long enough as the distances are too big. I'm not sure how long you are there for, or how far you want to travel, but: - Sydney was cool, set around the bay. Though not worth going miles out of your way for. - Byron Bay was a nice town, with a nice beach to try and learn surfing, see dolphins etc.. - The Gold Coast sounds nice, but its been overdeveloped to death, even to the extent that the huge hotels cast shadows over the beach in the afternoon. Tacky too. - The best thing I did was an overnight 4x4 camping trip to Fraser Island... the world's largest island of sand. Driving at 70mph in a 4x4 along the beach while a plane lands 500 yards infront of you was awesome. As was racing the tide to avoid getting washed away, bathing in pure water lakes and watching an awesome sunset. Most trips can be hired from Hervey bay. http://www.seefraserisland.com/ - The second best thing I did was spending 3 days on a sailing boat in the Whitsundays (Airlie Beach) where there are loads of boat hire deals. This is also where you can dive on the great barrier reef (or snorkel from the boat) and where a whale breached 20ft from our boat as we were having breakfast. Awesome beaches too. - The rainforests up by cairnes were cool too. It depends what sort of trip you are doing and for how long you are going. The backpacker buses are quite expensive, but a good way to pack in loads of stuff to a short time. If you do decide to see the east coast be prepared to meet as many brits as aussies. abespam
heads up im an aussie.. yeh if ur goin to the blue mountains im guessing ur coming from sydney, since its a couple of hrs drive west from sydney. At the blue mountains u can check out the 'three sisters' a bit more of a trip and u can see the 'jenolan caves'. I doubt u'll go as far up the coast as toms has mentioned if ur just seein family at glenmore park. However u can of course explore the city voted the best place to live in the world, SYDNEY!! (yes i live there). The usual things - sydney harbour bridge (theres a tour that allows u to walk across the top) - opera house - centre point tower - bondi beach - zoos, museums and such ... depends what kind of things ur into, there a heap of good nightclubs , and hell u can even take a tour of fox studios where parts of sw was made. Im sure ur family knows places anyways.

toms
The walks over the top of the harbour bridge looked awesome, but they were insanely expensive. You can climb up the towers for free, but that isn't as cool. I didn't manage it, but i think you can book cheap seats for the opera house. Bondi Beach was nice (if much smaller than expected). Manley (and the ferry across the harbour to it) was my fave place in sydney. I think there is a valley where they make a lot of wine and do a lot of wine tastings over towards the blue mountains. If you are into wine that is... Interesting fact number one: The two stone towers at each end of Sydney Harbour Bridge serve NO structural purpose. The whole coathanger style metal structure is self supporting. But after they built it no-one would use it because they didn't think it was safe. So they built huge stone towers at each end just to make people feel better. Interesting fact two: While I was at Bondi Beach I was chilling on a halfpipe they have on the seafront, and then some famous aussie topless model turned up to pose half naked for photos for her calendar at the top of the ramp with a skateboard. THat was fun. She never dropped in though. - I can't guarantee this happens every time -
