manoman81
Here's the story: Her mom's boyfriend's sister had a dog that did not get along with her other dogs. Well, they had to give it away before we could get it. So, now I'm looking to find a dog and a way to convince her mom to let me get a dog for my fiance for her birthday (which is on Wednesday). Any suggestions on how to convince "mommy dearest" to let me get a dog and what kind should I get? I'm looking for a smaller dog that's playfull. We live in the city so, as much as I love them, I don't want to get a beagle. Any suggestions anyone can give me would be awesome.

El Sitherino
Seriously though, take her to a corgi ranch and let her see some pembrokes. If she doesn't open up then, she's a heartless, wretched old woman with no soul and is leading a horribly pathetic life.

I have told you nothing about her mom and you have hit the nail straight on the freakin' head. Yeah. I'll have to see what I can find in paper too. Dagobahn Eagle
Cities aren't such good places for dogs. Get one that requires next to no exercise. Or a corn snake:D. I don't know how to convince her, really, but an important word of caution is that, as Stephen King said in his L. T.'s Theory about Pets, of all birthday presents to give someone, a pet is the #1 worst. That is, if they don't know they're getting them. If you're giving her a doggie, make sure she knows and that you've talked it trough before-hand and agreed it'd be a good thing. Just making sure. manoman81
The first thing that comes to my mind is "Who cares about the mom? Just get 'er a f***in' dog. Even if it's a small one." That is unless your fiance still lives with her parents at the moment. This is the other problem. We both live there with her mom. I'm looking to get the heck out of there as soon as my refund from school loans comes in next semester. Cities aren't such good places for dogs. Well, my city is not like NY or anything. There is a park nearby and a dog park about 10 mins. away. Get a dachshund. I like dachshunds. They're fun to have around Get a chichuahua I don't think I can say it enough. Chichuahuas are not dogs. They are mean, little rats. Besides, that's the type of dog that gave the other dog so much grief. I'm going to have a talk with her mom tonight and see what I can pull. I know her mom's boyfriend is all about getting my fiance a dog so I have an ally in this fight. And yes we have talked about getting a dog before. It's not that big of a problem for us. In any case, I might just go down to the local pound and see if the have a mild tempered dog there up for adoption. Thanks everyone.
manoman81
Update So it turns out the my fiance's mom was playing with her from the start. Her b-day was yesterday and they actually gave her the dog. So, all is well and my fiance is smiling right now because she has a dog lying in her bed. Thanks again everybody.
