NVidia drivers for Radeon Card???

Darth Sun_Tzu

Recommended Posts

Why does the game insist that i need the latest NVidia drivers for my Radeon 9200 graphics card??

I have the latest Radeon drivers installed but the game is not happy with that.

The game will run but crashes alot, and every couple of days it will automatically scan my hardware and tell me that the game requirements are not met. This cause my setting to be reset and my latest saved game to become unloadable, which is very annoying to say the least. Why is this happening?

Below is the swinfo report.

The Radeon 9200 is a low end video card. Lower your graphic options too: disable grass, shadows, Anisotropy, Frame Buffer effects, v-sync and lower texture quality. All theses options are on from the report you posted. If it still crashes lower that screen resolution.

i don't see anything to indicate that you're using the wrong drivers, so i can't help you with that part.

as for the constant crashing, its because your current video drivers aren't up to date. go ahead and get the latest from ATI, and that shoud help with the crashing.

I updated the drivers only a couple of month ago, are there new ones available?

Edit: ok there are, i'm downloading them now.

Ok i'll try that but i have a feeling it'll still crash. What about the refresh rate?

But why does the game think a need NVidia drivers?

Edit: just updated and it still thinks i need NVidia drivers.

Do you have perchance an nVidia nForce motherboard (has sound and built-in video), but you've (hopefully) disabled the on-board nVidia graphics and are using an ATI card instead?

I find it odd "it's" (whatever "it" is ;) ) is telling you that you need nVidia drivers unless there's something in or on your system nVidia based...

where are you getting this warning telling you to get the latest Nvidia drivers?? the spec sheet you posted is showing you exactly what the game is detecting. and in this case, its detecting ATI drivers.

It say it on the System Info pop-up, where it has either the green, amber or red dots telling you if system has passed or failed. It recognises the radeon card but under there it says "Your current drivers are out of date NVidia cards require Dentonator 45.23 drivers or better."

I think the motherboard did have built in sound but i'm not aware of a built in graphics. But this problem has only started since i went from Win 98 to XP.

Here is the new report with the new drivers installed.

hmmm... easiest way to check is to look at the back of your comp and see if there is another port available for the monitor to plugin (could be a VGA or DVI port).. just make sure the port isn't "next" to the one your using currently (since you ATI card may have 'dual' ports)... it's usually located either on the very top or very bottom of your row of ports...

If that's not the case, I fear I'm stumped.. hopefully stingerhs puts on his "thinker cap" and blesses us with even more computer goodness :D

hmm, after going over something, i have to ask: did you previously have an Nvidia card installed on your system?

also, i think we could use some more detailed info on your system. check the 'Need For Speed on your Computer' sticky and grab the 'PC Wizard 2005' tool. its free, so don't worry about that part.

Well looking at it, he may have to get the omega drivers, in my case cause i have a 9200 also and the omega worked perfectly for me since i ahd the same problem but it went away soon after i got those drivers, and if that doesnt work you just may have to overclock a little and then try it out
