Rebel AI does not build captial ships

Are you playing the mission based Singleplayer Campaign or are you playing one of the open ended Galactic Conquest Universes?

If you are on mission number one in the Imperial Campaign, the AI is shut off until about mission 3 or 4. Then it depends on your tech level and what planets the AI has, only four planets can make a Mon Cal.

You would need to be much more detailed to be able to answer your question.

I'm playing the Singleplayer Campaign and I have the opposite problem: I have stolen the Mon Cal tech (I've stolen ALL techs), am at tech level 4, and I've built a L5 station at Kuat, but the Mon Cal cruiser does not show up on the list of buildable vessels. What have I missed? Help!

The Campaign Missions are scripted. Some enemy units are locked out until you get to the higher level Acts. You can be at the highest Tech level etc, but the AI is knee capped depending upon the mission.

You can view this stuff in the text XML and Story stuff, go download the EAW_FULL folder in the mods section and read it. I have seen it, and I do know certain units are locked out until higher missions later in campaign (as if it is that long anyway).

If you can tell me *exactly* what act and mission you are in, then I can tell you what *handicap* if any the AI is forced into.

"they can't build the Mon Cals until you can build an ISD since they have to first steal the tech from you and then they have to hold a planet that can build one."

No. it does not work that way. Rebels and tech up independent of the Empire's level - I know that sound contradictary but it is true.

I've actually noticed the opposite whilst playing GC as the Rebs.

The Imperials will ONLY build fleets of Tartans and ....the other basic attack ship whose name escapes me at this point (at work ;)).

I've had fleets of 40+ ships attack me, the waves of fighters are HUGE. Also, because they have so many Tartans, using fighters is completely suicide, they shred them to pieces and you have to rely soley on gunships as anti fighter/bomber support.

I've cranked it up to hard to see if it makes any difference, but I'm that far along in the GC that I don't think they'll recover enough to change.

Actually, same goes for ground units, I've yet to see them build any kind of structure beyond what's placed there to start of with, this also applies to units, I haven't seen anything but speeders and stormies.

This is the only thing i hate about this game, that the AI cannot build a good force. I played throught the campaign as imperials on different difficulties and they(rebels) never build tanks on ground or capital ships in space. They use mostly nebulon b frigates and maybe some assault ships later on, and a lot of fighters. As for ground battles, they seem to focus a lot on artillery and seem to ignore tanks or any good balanced force. Im looking through the xmls to see where the AI decides what to build but i have had no luck, if anyone can help it would be REALLY good.

I think that this can be fixed. For evry unit there is AI value description. If we copy paste that value from tartan cruiser to some capital ships then it will be Ok. Otherwise we should edit AI equations.

Are you talking about AI_Combat_Power? I have edited these myself but havent had time to test this, what about you?

I have tried setting xwing combat power to 0 and increasing y-wing cobmat power but after some skirmished the AI still builds a crapload of x-wings and some corvettes but no y-wings.

Keep in mind that x-wings are standard garrison units, so they'll appear from space stations even if the AI isn't actively building them.

The AI in the DEMO mods worked great. I wonder what happened??

UPDATE:

In he Campaign playing as the Rebels on medium, the Empire attacks me with alot of capital ships with a good variety mixed.

Is this a 'Rebel' AI only problem?

I guess I will play the Empire's Campaign and see what happens. I cannot believe the AI would be any different in GC mode.

That's funny, I'm playing as the Empire, and I've been coming up against plenty of tanks and artillery on the ground. I also came up against two Mon Calamari cruisers when I took the Mon Cal system. I'm lucky I attacked the system with over ten Victory and Acclimator Star Destroyers. :p

I had similar problems, the rebs only build small ships but what I really hate is during one of my GC game the rebs only attack Ilum and the always brought the same forces (Obi-wan, 1T2-B, and 2 air speeders). While they waisted time attacking there I easily took the rest of there planets.
