alxy_07
So im at the part in the Imperial campaign where you can either take several rebel planets or blow them up . Anyways, the planets seem to be well defended with Ion cannons. Since I come into space battles with my ISD, they target it with the cannon right away.. The only thing is, for the entire battle i cant get it to move! Should it not become functional again after all the blue static around the ship disapears, which I assume is the Ion cannon messing with my ship! How long roughly do the effects last for? Jan Gaarni
I'm not sure how it works in the game (not come that far yet), but the demo (once modders got the gun working) suffered from the same thing. What is probably happening, which did happen in the demo, is that the Ion Cannon keeps firing once the effect wears off, keeping the star destroyer in check. FunkyDwarf
basically it has a long lasting effect but they can fire it again once the timer wears off, like with bombing runs, special abilities etc. IMO the timer is too short as whenever i take Piett into battle he is imobilised for the entire thing, so i just leave him with transports to fend off attackers that get that far i think
Evanesce
I had the same problem in a conquest game. Pietts victory class star destroyer was hit with an Ion cannon and never recovered. The star destroyer would move (Very Very slowly) and the rebel force took about 30 minutes to destroy him since it was the only unit I had left. Also the ion cannon did not fire on him again (only once) and started hitting other units. Ok, this is a major BuG to me because you can not retreat and there is no self destruct in the game so I had to set the game on high speed and wait forever for the rebels to destroy him. I was playing on hard Galactic conquest at the time.
Jan Gaarni
Just a small note: The Accuser (Pietts vessel) is not a Victory-class, but an Imperator-Class.

popcorn2008
The Ion Cannon effect lasts for a very long time. That is why it is so deadly. When used correctly it can turned total failure into absolute victory. This long lasting effect was most likely neccesary to balance it with the hypervelocity cannon. Maym
It's a bit crazy at the moment as it can knock out 2/5th's of your fleet (if you send in 5 ISD's) when switched back and forth, which is pretty scary!
Admiral Sith
the Hyper cannon is a piece of crud. It takes a long time to reload, misses alot, and doesnt even hit the part of the ship you want it to. It does a tiny bit of damage to the whole ship. FunkyDwarf
i think the ion cannon effect on piet is bugged though, it seems to last MUCh longer than on an ormal ISD, which is stupid given he has an upgraded one. i know it hits multiple times but still i think each hit lasts longer
MistenTH
One ion cannon shot does 15000 shield damage, drains all energy from the ship (meaning no shield regen or weapons fire), and stops all movement for 30 seconds. The ion cannon fires 3 shots; All the shots stack. Total: 45000 shield damage, 90 seconds' disable. Recharge time: 20 seconds. ISD Shield Strength:2000. L5 Space Station Shield Strength:9000. The hypervelocity cannon does random damage to the ship it hits. It fires 10 shots of 300 damage each, shield penetrating. If you're unhappy with these, mod these yourself, or head over to the mods section.
alxy_07
stops movement for 30 seconds? Im fine with the Ion cannon, but my ships are stuck for like 10-15 mins or however long the battle lasts
Heavyarms
Yeah, I noticed that. If you fire it at the station you are fighting (this is in skirmish mode) you pretty much render it useless. It doesn't seem to recover either. Or at least not in time before I destroy it.
gswift
Yeah, pretty boring when you have three cruisers glowing blue for over a half hour even with the time scale increased. All the rebels had left were a couple of fighter groups. I should have auto-resolved. My cruisers never recovered from the ion blasts. They would eventually be able to turn VERY slowly, but not fire their guns. That can't be the way it was intended. I let the battle play out, just to see if they ever recovered. Admiral Z
I find that the ion cannon recharges way too fast. It needs to be longer.
DedTheros
the Hyper cannon is a piece of crud. It takes a long time to reload, misses alot, and doesnt even hit the part of the ship you want it to. It does a tiny bit of damage to the whole ship. Personally i've found the Hyper cannon to be a beautiful thing. Especially in a multiplayer game. It can cause so much damage to a frigate / Assault frig to the point that i'll bring in an acc to finish it off if there is no corvette support for them. You just have to use the hyper cannon wisely. I think it does the most damage if a ship is just in stop mode, little less with it moving slowly in a straight line, and can totally miss if it's turning. I also believe it takes the same amount of time to load as an ion cannon though i could be wrong, and remember if there is more then one cannon of either type on a planet in campaign mode they will load faster. I beleive though on average a hypercannon will take out 3 random hardpoints on a regular frigate at full health. So if you have 2 hardpoints gone or most of them damaged to a degree your going to finish it off with the cannon if you get a direct hit. As for the ion cannon, i know in a MP battle the shot lasts as long as it takes to load up your next ion cannon. Though i think it should be shorter thats my opinion. I guess the devs think that they balance each other out.
