Cubs in 2006? Well that would end a 98 year World Series title drought. Personally being from Arizona, I'm a Diamondbacks fan. I also love the Red Sox and really hate the Yankees. 2001 (D-Backs beating the Yanks in the World in the last at bat) and 2004 (Red Sox coming back from 0-3 to beat the Yanks and go on to win the title) were good years.

Well, after SWEEPING :D the Cards this weekend, we've got a pretty darn good start. Barrett's grand slam in the 8th last night was sweet.

Isringhausen was, very unusually, way off his game last night. I have great respect for his pitching ability, and the thought did occur to me that he might be playing with an elbow or shoulder injury.

I actually almost felt sorry for the Cards in that inning. Then I came out of Fantasy Land and enjoyed Barrett's blast out of the park. ;P

Sorta funny. Last night, after watching the Oilers get there ass handed to them by the Blues, that game was on.

So, the bases were loaded, Michael Barrett steps up to the plate...

*CRACK*

It's outta the park. Game over. :D:p

Heh, Harry's the reason I'm a Cubs fan. I got sick as a dog summer '89 when I was going to college down in SW MO. and spent several weeks laying on the couch. The only thing on in the afternoon on the cable down there was soap operas or WGN and Cubs baseball (or Welcome Back, Kotter reruns if there was a rain-out). Well, I can only stand so much fluff TV, so I had on WGN most of the time, which meant I got to listen to Harry nearly every day til he had his stroke. He was hilarious. I was really hooked after Bill Murray sat in as a guest host while Harry recovered. He played the stereotypical 'die-hard Cubs fan' thing to the hilt the entire game, screaming at the other team's outfielders to drop the ball, taunting the other team, cheering on the Cubs, yelling at the umps that they were blind and how could they not call that a strike (even if it was 3 feet outside). The Cubs were always safe on base, even if they never even got close. I just about died laughing.

I'm just so bummed about Derek Lee being out a good 2 months with his broken wrist. I hate to see any player injured.

Just when we finally get some solid players working as a team for once, this happens. (Jae pulls out some hair in frustration, wondering why she's crazy enough to stay a Cubs fan)

That's baseball for ya. Just when hope starts to warm you up...

Lee is awesome. If the Cubs can stay afloat 'till then, he'll have a major impact on his return. Their pitching seems solid and there's a couple of hitters still left in the line up. Don't be too dissuaded.

I hope they do alright, well, at least 'till they meet up with my Brewers (who still stink) :wornout:

I was heartbroken. We so got mowed over. Zambrano's not pitching well--has a 5.something ERA right now. Maddux is hot, though!

But, that's a typical Cubs/Brewers kind of game--high scoring.

I don't worry about 7-0 deficits playing the Brewers because of all the runs these 2 teams hit against each other. On the other hand, if we're up by 7, it's not a safe cushion, either. :D

Maddux is awesome.

When he's not playing the Brewers, I love to watch him work. He's a master at his craft. He'll lull hitters to sleep and frustrate them when he changes pace and targets different corners of the plate as the game progresses.

You can tell he does his homework with hitters. He seems to know their weaknesses and strengths. Then he exploits them. He doesn't need overpowering fastballs, and his movement is incredible, for an old fart. :thmbup1:

Speaking of overpowering fastballs, Derrick Turnbow is a cyborg from Holowan Labs.

You didn't get to see him in that Cubby series, I don't think. He's tied for the lead in ML saves right now, and he's a beast.

They showed a quick glimps of him last night in the bullpen filling his shoulder unit with liquid nitrogen. He throws pure vapor.

Didn't it seem to be an instant rivalry the moment the Brewers entered the National league? They both seem to get pumped for those series. Very good baseball to watch.

Next battle: ...the end of June.

I agree, never seen another pitcher as prepared as Maddux. And with Barrett catching, they're a tough team. I'm delighted that he saw the light and returned to the Cubs. :D

I can't remember if we saw Turnbow or not. I've certainly heard about him, though. :)

Yeah, Cubs/Brewers has turned into a fun rivalry. If you want rivalry, though, come to our house during a Cubs/Cards game. Jimbo's almost as diehard a Cards fan as I am a Cubs fan. :D Sometimes it gets ugly. :)

I knew the Reds were doing well, but didn't know it was that well.

Blue Jays--I don't follow White Sox nearly as closely as Cubs/Brewers/Cards, so we don't get as much info on the AL teams. Cubs have a better record right now, though :)

@Jae No you didn't. You'd definately have remembered watching him launch 98mph vapor pellets at the batter's box. I've seen him hit 100 last season.

He's a tall, long haired, lumbering, wide shouldered gent who looks like his body is too large for his head. Kinda like that hunter sitting next to Geena Davis waiting in that eternal line in the movie Betelguise.

Cubbies/Cards: always a great matchup. Can anyone stop Pujols?

What the heck is going on in Cinncinnati? ...can't belive my eyes. :eyepop

Throws kind of like Farnsworth with the Cubs before he screwed himself over staying out all the time doing heaven only knows what. Man, could that boy pitch some mean fastballs.

Short of general anesthesia, I don't think anything can stop Pujols. :) The man is a homerun machine. Jimbo cheerfully told me yesterday Maddux was NL pitcher of the month for April, but then added that Pujols was NL Player of the month. Wish the Cubs had him with DLee out. :D

Jimbo had a similar response about the Reds.

Ugh! I get home from my symposium (and no TV/internet access for scores for about 4 days) and find an 8 day losing streak....

Nice catch by Jones to rob Bonds of a homerun. It was the only bright spot in the game. I know he's going to make it to No.2 in HRs, I just prefer it not be against the Cubs.
