How do you Back up KOTOR?

I'm moving and am getting a new computer. However, I don't want to start KOTOR 1 and 2 all over again. Can I copy the LucasArts directory and paste it back when I've installed the game on my new computer? Will it work?

Thanks,

Bali :)

You could, but if you're only interested in your savegames.. just save those folder(s) and perhaps your swkotor(2).ini file :)

If you're using mods, be sure to backup your override folder as well.. or it'll cause a headache with your saves ;)

Just remember that even if you do decide to save the entire directory, you'll need to still "install" KotOR/TSL on your new computer.. then overwrite the directories with your backups. Registry entries are the "silent killer" .. hehehe

That's why you back up the HKEY_SOFTWARE (or whatever it's name is) section of your registry.

indeed :)

But if you're not familiar with Registry Editing, you'll wind up doing more damage than good. If it's a new "clean" computer, you're safest bet is to just re-install the game then overwrite the savegame folder.

It'll be much easier to recover should something fail ;)

Actually, to say the truth, I was uninstalling the game from my computer because I'm lending it to someone for awhile. I'm just taking my personal files and games off temporarily. I will get my computer back so, yeah, back to my original question. It's not going to be a "clean" comptuer.

Anyway, I just realized that its fine to start over again, anyway. I mean, I've already played the game a few times. It's not so bad to start all over again. That's what you do anyway when you play a new game. And by the time I get my computer back, I'll totally forget my place. :) Thanks anyway.

I don't have a lot of mods, either.

Start->Run->"regedit"->File->Save as...Export...

...or get a registry cleaner/"repairer" to back it up for you. I recommend CCleaner, you can get it from http://www.ccleaner.com/ :)
