playloud
Bioware is making a new RPG call Mass Effect. I was just checking out the screenshots and thinking how nice it would be if they did K3, and used the Mass Effect engine (it looks like a revamped KoTOR engine). I spoke with a couple people from Obsidian at E3, and although they could not comment on anything, their body language told me that K3 was not being worked on. I could be totally wrong about this, so please don't flame me. We only spoke for about 5 minutes, and they told me how the lead designer of K2 was planning on finishing K2 on his own time, but then the company told him to start working on other stuff. It sounded like they were very interested in working on K3, however it seemed like they were not at that stage (yet). If they aren't working on it, I just think it would be nice if Bioware could do it with the Mass Effect engine.
Hallucination
Define 'Mass Effect Engine' please. Do you mean the graphics engine (which I believe is from well-known FPS, but I forgot which one) or the gamplay engine (which they said is real-time but have released no other info on)? playloud
I was referring to the graphics engine. As the game has not been released yet, I can only really go by the screenshots.

VincentFreeman
Bioware is using the UE3 (Unreal 3) engine for Mass Effect. It would be cool if KoTOR 3 used the UE3 engine as it has shown how diverse it can be and how beautiful it can be.

HerbieZ
May be a great premise for the Kotor 3 engine.
Char Ell
Bioware is making a new RPG call Mass Effect. I was just checking out the screenshots and thinking how nice it would be if they did K3, and used the Mass Effect engine (it looks like a revamped KoTOR engine). Not to say that Mass Effect won't be an awesome game or isn't based on a revamped KotOR engine but how did you arrive at this conclusion? IMO screenshots don't really give one an idea of how well an engine works and I can't find any Mass Effect trailers. I spoke with a couple people from Obsidian at E3, and although they could not comment on anything, their body language told me that K3 was not being worked on. I could be totally wrong about this, so please don't flame me. It sounded like they were very interested in working on K3, however it seemed like they were not at that stage (yet). Your observations and conclusions dovetail with statements Obsidian's CEO has made in a couple of interviews this year, specifically that Obsidian isn't currently working on KotOR 3 but would love to make the game if that is what LucasArts wants them to do. IMO we're back to square 1. Will LucasArts make a KotOR 3 or not? Square 2 is who will make the next KotOR? In regards to KotOR: TSL's lead designer finishing TSL on his own time, I didn't think those guys really had their "own" time to work on games. In any event, it speaks volumes about how they viewed the final state of the game.
twolf005
Did anyone see the display at E3 on this effect? I could not attend and have only read what the companies have put out on the net, press, etc. If anyone knows where I can see this in a trailer or download, please let me (and the rest) know. Thanks. IMO screenshots don't really give one an idea of how well an engine works and I can't find any Mass Effect trailers. It just reminds me a lot of KoTOR. The way the characters look and such. As I said in my original post, it looks like a revamped KoTOR engine. I know nothing about what is under the hood.
Char Ell
^^^ Very good then and my apologies for reading a bit too much into your statement. Since BioWare was the developer for KotOR I guess it makes sense that an RPG they are currently making would remind you of one of their previous RPG's. I checked out the screenshots for Mass Effect and while I didn't get the KotOR feel from them like you did I thought the screenies coupled with what I have read looked and sounded really good, so good in fact that I think Mass Effect will be the next RPG I purchase. Well, if and when it's available for PC that is.
Darca Lar
I at least just want the game made.
playloud
Well, if and when it's available for PC that is. Yeah, I don't like the fact that games are being made only for consoles. PCs are far better IMHO, and I would like to see Mass Effect available for the PC.
