Okay BongoBob, if I remember my research from a while back, there are 3 main types of insomnia:

The most common is going to bed and not being able to fall asleep until 2 or 3, but then you sleep pretty well (though you may be tired when you wake up if you don't sleep a full 7 or 8 hours). It sounds as if most of the people on this thread have this type.

The second most common is when you go "to sleep" but when you wake up in the morning you feel as if you didn't sleep a wink all night, because all night you drift between light waves of sleep and being awake, and you never fully enter the REM (rapid eye movement...when you dream) stage. This causes you to have the feeling that you got absolutely no sleep, while you did in fact get some, but not nearly enough to re-energize you.

The least common sounds like something you may have, it is when you don't have trouble falling asleep, and you can go to sleep whenever, but you almost ALWAYS wake up at the same time. Usually it starts later and gradually gets earlier and earlier. For example, no matter whether you go to bed at 9 oclock, or 10 or midnight, you will ALWAYS wake up at around 2:30 (just one example, it's not always 2:30 obviously). And when you wake up you may not feel completely fatigued (varies between persons) , but after a few hours your body decides to cease functioning properly, and you need more sleep. The severe cases of this include people that can NOT sleep after waking up, until it is night again.

In my opinion, all Insomnia really is, is just a kind of mental disorder. It's how you think about things. Because take for instance, if at night you get very little sleep, but you have something to look forward during the day, you normally don't feel nearly as tired as you normally would (but maybe that's just me?). I think insomnia works similarly, sometimes if I just tell myself at night "okay, I have a HUGE day tomorrow, I'll need my sleep" I tend to get it. But it would obviously vary between people, so just find out whatever works best for you!

Heh, when I was like 11 I would wake up at 5:00am every day in the summer. It was cool because I would have the house to myself for around 3 hours. (So I usually downloaded large files on my 56k that would otherwise piss my parent's off if they knew.) :D

*Remembers 56k*

Dear lord, I remember spending 3 days downloading the 100mb UT2003 demo in pieces. Now I can download a 100mb file in around 3 minutes. :p

Damnit, I get a good nights sleep, like my sleep schedule is gonna return to normal. And then what happens. It's 4 o clock and I can't ****ing sleep. This proves it's not just bad sleeping habits or caffiene, sugar, or addrenaline. I took a ten minute nap from 4:15 to 4:25, and had no caffiene or high suger content anything after. And played no video games. And I still can't sleep.

Damn all this bull****, I'm gonna ask my doctor about sleeping pills

Be happy that you are not like the main character of the book Insomnia, by Steven King.

/shameless plug

fixed.

Sleeping pills are a scary route to go, Bongo, because most of them have a high risk or dependency. First try taking some antihistamine, that always takes the edge off of me so that I can sleep if I'm stressed or something.
