Lorden Darkblade
Hello fellow swampers I come to you in a desperate need of help With this PC: Proc: A64 3200+ @ 3800+ Mobo: ASUS A8N-E VGA: X1800XT 256MB RAM: 2x1GB Patriot DDR400 HD: 40GB WD400BB PSU: 7Team ST-500ZNF I made an overclock in the processor with this config: vCore: 1.400 HyperTransport: 4x FSB: 240 Memories(in BIOS): 400mhz (333mhz BIOS) 3-3-3-6 1T All was normal, I even ran SuperPI 32M and all went fine. But this afternoon I was browsing and the PC simply shut down. After I turned it on again it run the chkdsk, it found some files and corrected them. Then it rebooted and it started normally. I started MotherBoard Monitor and left it on. Sometimes the vCore alarm sounded and it showed the vCore was at 1.71 once! I updated the BIOS from 1008 to 1013 and the driver of the chipset too cuz in the ASUS website it said it was required to update the BIOS. Ran SuperPI 32m again and it was all normal. But 20mins after I ran SuperPI BAM! The alarm went off again and showed the vCore was at 1.71 What can be causing this? Is it normal? How can fix it IF it's a problem? Det. Bart Lasiter
What's your CPU's multiplier?
Lorden Darkblade
If I'm not mistaken it's set on Auto in the BIOS.
BongoBob
Have you tweaked your voltage at all? If you have, take it down a bit and if not take the multiplyer down a tad.
Lorden Darkblade
No I haven't. I only setted the vCore at 1.400 in the BIOS and the other voltages are auto. Same for the CPU Multiplier, it's on auto if I'm not mistaken.
coupes.
Not to sound like an ass or anything, but this should probably go in Yoda's Swamp Technical Support Center. Other than that, I hope all goes well for you and I hope your PC isn't damaged. I personnaly don't like to tweak too much with my PC, as I don't really have the money to cover the risk. Now, I realise I'm not much help here, so I'm just gonna shut up.

coupes.
Hey, don't sweat it ! The thread hasn't been around for too long anyways, I guess it's normal that not everyone noticed it yet. I'm sure a mod will do the necessary

Crow_Nest
Try running everything at full stock, including the RAM and video card. See if it helps, then from there work your way up. Sounds like you got a bad chip. :| Well, shyte happens... My cousin has his 3000 running at Cool n' QUiet mode, maybe you should try that. It throttles down the CPU to like 1GHz or so and at 1.4voltage. And he says electrical bills are lower too. o.O Dont worry, while you're gaming there is still some reasonable performance. Lorden Darkblade
Hmmm Dunno some people said it could be the PSU... I'm lost...
BongoBob
Try taking everything down to stock and see if it still does it. Or don't use auto and manually set everything. See if that works. If neihter of those works, then contact AMD and tell them you think you got a bad chip.
Lorden Darkblade
It's all on auto except the vCore. I think... How can I be sure the BIOS is applying and/or saving my configs? I go in there and it shows 1.400 but I think it's on Auto...

I go in there and it shows 1.400 but I think it's on Auto... There should be something which allows you to load the fail/safe settings in BIOS. This will revert everything to the safest possible settings which is sure to work. Try that. If it still crashes often, then it could mean you've busted the chip just like i did on my old XP2600. It ran OC'ed fine for about a month before it bit the dust.
Lorden Darkblade
Problem solved here. I changed the PSU for a generic brand one. No more vCore oscilations. Sending the PSU for RMA.
